Audio Systems Engineer

And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.** **Job Description** The New York Times audio team is looking for an audio systems engineer to work across all current and future shows in our portfolio. You will help maintain, develop, and execute new and existing audio systems for a variety of stakeholders. You will be a technical liaison between audio engineering, content teams, and other partners in NYT Audio’s mission to deliver high quality products. You will also create and update in-depth training materials for audio production and workflow techniques. You will also stay up to date on key industry developments and will work with engineering leadership to implement new standards both at the team and individual level. This role is based in New York City with an in-office presence 3 or 4 days per week. **Responsibilities:** + Facilitate conversations about workflow improvements and standardization across our portfolio of shows + Keep audio team and our systems on cutting edge of technical advancements + Train and assist staff in file sharing software, studio procedures, Pro Tools operation, and platform best practices + Provide expert audio technical support for team of producers and editors + Act as critical point person for deeper troubleshooting audio and studio issues + Work with Senior Production Manager to create or maintain standard operating procedure documents for audio team and reporting staff + Partner with NYT technical department on IT compliance, new initiatives, software deployment, etc + Represent engineering interests and capabilities in team wide projects and ambitions + Engage in outside vendor relationships + Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence (https://www.nytco.com/company/mission-and-values/) and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. + Occasional night and weekend support **Basic Qualifications:** + 5+ years of experience as an audio engineer (or equivalent position) required – podcast or broadcast environment preferred + Strong knowledge of audio over IP systems, cloud storage, recording platforms, and publishing platform workflows **Preferred Qualifications:** + Ability to quickly, calmly and _creatively_ troubleshoot complex issues under pressure + Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on projects to completion + Excellent attention to detail, with good organization and time management skills + Ability to describe complex technical considerations to non-technical audiences + Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills; with the ability to communicate complex technical information to people with technical and nontechnical backgrounds + High level of proficiency with Apple computers The annual base pay range for this role is between $93,500.00 and $110,000.00. **Please include a cover letter to apply.** ...
