POSITION TITLE: Attendance Officer
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Reports to: Building Principal or Designee
CONTRACT LENGTH: 10 ½ months (Grant Funded)
BASIC FUNCTION:
Maintains all student attendance and membership records and performs clerical duties for the Building Administration.
Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Interpret and communicate compulsory attendance laws, school policy, SBCSC Code of Conduct, and other relevant regulations to students and parents.
+ Records student absences and maintains student attendance records. Answers inquiries from parents, students, and teachers, regarding a particular student’s attendance record.
+ Assist with locker assignments.
+ Prepares periodic reports such as membership, average attendance, etc.
+ Maintain confidentiality
+ Monitor, review, and assess student attendance and behavior.
+ Interpret and communicate compulsory attendance laws and school policy to students and parents.
+ Ensure student compliance with the SBCSC Code of Conduct, attendance and tardy policies and determine and assign disciplinary action based on infraction(s) of the School Code of Conduct.
+ Work with administrative staff to prepare student due process documentation and participate in Community Control Panel hearings as necessary.
+ Communicate with parents and students in explaining procedures and consequences of the attendance policy. Meet with parents and students regularly regarding attendance issues.
+ Serve as school liaison to parents, law enforcement agencies and court personnel.
+ Confer with students in matters of attendance and tardiness and make a reasonable effort to gain their cooperation to improve their attendance. Demonstrate a fair and consistent approach when working with students, parents, and staff
+ Track down “9999” no-show students.
+ Work with Data Tech to monitor student attendance.
+ Collaborate with the school administrative team.
+ Monitor the recording of daily attendance to ensure that established procedures are followed.
+ Identify student truancies, contact parents, and then report to the appropriate authorities, if necessary.
+ Maintain a good, positive role model in attire and demeanor.
+ Ability to work well with others in the office and the school as a whole. Follow other directives from school administration that serve to improve services to the students and patrons of the SBCSC.
+ Any other duties assigned by building-level administration.
SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION:
High school graduate (or equivalent) and 1-5 years of successful clerical experience. Knowledge of standard office procedures, and ability to learn SBCSC policies and procedures related to absenteeism, attendance, and tardiness. Must be able to type accurately; ability to spell correctly and use proper grammar; ability to maintain accurate orderly records; ability to deal with students, parents and teachers. Computer knowledge, for which a skills test may be required.
Minimum qualifications:
+ Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and organizational skills.
+ Ability to develop databases and use word processing.
+ Must be knowledgeable about or be able to learn and understand State compulsory laws.
+ Ability to interpret laws, policies and procedures.
