Athletic Trainer Intern Counselor

As an Athletic Trainer Intern, staff should expect to work under a certified athletic trainer. Responsibilities include the day-to-day care of injuries and medical emergencies that occur on camp facilities for campers, staff, guests, and visiting athletes. Within this role there are varying degrees of processes in which must be understood and prioritized in order to successfully achieve the daily operations of this department.  Athletic Trainer Interns should be knowledgeable in the injuries and sport injury prevention.

This position is classified under California's Camp Counselor exemption (LAB 1182.4 and Wage Order 5). Employees are paid a weekly salary of 85% of their hourly rate for hours worked between 40- 56 hours per week or will be paid at 85% of their hourly rate for each hour worked if the employee works less than 40 hours per week. Any hours worked over 56 will be paid at overtime rates, in accordance with California labor law.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:   

Maintain and be knowledgeable resource of current and proposed standards of practice and state guidelines of athletic trainers, ensuring adherence to HIPAA standards     

Must be willing to evolve and adapt with the needs of the business.   

Responsible to provide basic athletic training services to all campers, guests, and staff.      

Responsible for maintaining records on campers, staff, guests utilizing our internal platforms     

Responsible for scheduling and follow-up evaluation and check-in appointments     

Maintains Woodward safety logs, operational sheets and incident logs   

Take daily inventory on supplies and operational needs   

Liaison between parents, coaches, program staff, and athletes regarding injury care, prevention, management, treatment. 

Ensure the Athletic Training Room is covered on a rotational basis during operational hours. Provide, alongside a Certified Athletic Trainer, on-call overnight coverage on a rotational basis every night via phone and radio coverage     

Other duties as assigned 

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:   

Well-spoken and articulate over the phone, through written contact and in person.   

Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet deadlines.   

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with moderate supervision, agile and able to pivot quickly. 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL SKILLS:   

Enrolled in an accredited athletic training education program.  

Must successfully-pass a background screening to ensure suitability of contact with minor children and the public, in accordance with Federal, state and local jurisdictions.

Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 50lbs. 

Have 1+ years of experience working with kids and/or teens 

CPR and First Aid Certification   

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:   

+/- up to 10 campers in the clinic   

BASIC SCHEDULE/REQUIREMENTS:   

As a requirement of this position, pre-hire criminal history clearances are collected from the Pennsylvania State Police (PATCH) system, child abuse clearances are obtained through the Department of Public Welfare, and federal history is taken through FBI fingerprint screening.   

Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 50lbs. 

Camp Attendance Requirements: Summer Camp- minimum commitment of 4 weeks.
