DESCRIPTION:

The school has an established reputation for the quality of its graduates and research, runs excellent facilities and hosts a SARChI research chair in hydrometallurgy and sustainable development and offers excellent opportunities for consultation and collaboration with chemical processing industries.

The School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for appointment as Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer in the field of Chemical Engineering.

The position is specifically for someone who can teach a variety of fundamental chemical engineering subjects. Candidates with specialist knowledge in thermodynamics, energy, bioprocessing, environmental engineering, or process design will have an edge. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a keenness for and aptitude in teaching and research.

Brief Description

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor s degree in chemical engineering and a PhD in Engineering are requirements. Registration as a professional engineer (Pr.Eng.), or eligibility for it, will be a distinct advantage . A minimum of 5 years experience in industry or a research organization is beneficial. Successful candidates will be encouraged to engage in research in his/her area of interest or to join existing research groups in the School. Particularly for the associate professor position a track record in research, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals, is required. Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as supervision of master s and doctoral students to completion, is recommended.

Successful candidates are expected to undertake further training in higher education.

DUTIES:

The successful candidate must demonstrate expertise in chemical engineering and an ability to:

Teach, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Teach a large group of undergraduate classes.

Develop his/her programme and/or module continually to meet the evolving challenges of the university and society.

Conduct productive research in his/her area of expertise and publish in accredited journals.

Develop new research programmes, secure funding, and manage funds from various sources.

Supervise postgraduate students for M.Sc.Eng and PhD qualifications.

Undertake administrative duties as assigned by the school.
