The Associate Physicist is responsible for existing or new applications in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, research, and radiation oncology.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Associate Physicist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Acceptance testing of new or replaced ionizing radiation producing equipment in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, research, and radiation oncology.Design and evaluate radiation protective shielding with the Medical Center, as well as satellite facilities.
Establish and implement a required regulatory preventive maintenance program within diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, research, and radiation oncology. This includes required testing of the following equipment: general radiographic, general fluoroscopic, computer tomography, mobile radiographic, mobile fluoroscopic, dental, cabinet, cardiac catheterization, mammography, mammography stereotactic, digital radiography, and simulator.
Performing radiation protection surveys as required by the NJDEP Bureau of Radiological Health.
Work with genetic counseling to calculate the radiation dose to the fetus when required.
Keep abreast of the evolving ionizing radiation techniques in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, research, and radiation oncology.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Master of Science in Physics or related field.Three years clinical experience in diagnostic medical physics.Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:Five years clinical experience in diagnostic medical physics.Licenses and Certifications Preferred:Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Medical Physics.Contacts:Regular contact with Medical Center personnel, patients and visitors.
