The Wits Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care (DFMPC), Faculty of Health Sciences, invites suitably qualified Medical Practitioners to apply for the following post. Responsible for the coordination of clinical training for final year medical students in the Division of Family Medicine of the DFMPC, the successful candidate will directly contribute to the strengthening, development and expansion of the Wits training platform, in new and unprecedented ways. Post: Associate Lecturer: Integrated Primary Care Coordinator (1 Year Fixed Term Contract - 100% Post)
Division of Family MedicineThe successful applicant will:Report directly to the Academic Head Division of Family Medicine Serve as coordinator for the Integrated Primary Care (IPC) rotation, the flagship of decentralised medical training in the Graduate Entry Medical Programme at the University of the Witwatersrand School of Clinical Medicine (SOCM). Work closely with the respective site supervisors / District Family physicians and other joint academic appointees of Wits/Department of Health (Family Medicine) based within all Academic Health Complexes including in southern Gauteng and Northwest Provinces. Serve as a key member of a team of clinical course coordinators in the Academic Divisions of the DFMPC in the SOCM that is responsible for a coordinated inter-professional training, focused on supporting clinical service platforms for improved care.
Brief DescriptionThe incumbent will: Supported by an Administrative Assistant and Family physicians, coordinate the IPC training blocks during the academic year, including student allocation, logbook development and administration, collation of marks and addressing students concerns and feedback. Teach and assess across all the undergraduate training programs in the DFMPC: GEMP I - IV, Bachelor of Clinical Medical Practice (Clinical Associates) and Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) Work with the Finance administrator to develop and administer budgets for these training programs. Provide ongoing academic support to students in the training programs, including mentoring. Give inputs and actively participate in the development and revision of relevant training curricula within the DFMPC. Visit training sites in all the Academic Health complexes including extended platforms in Gauteng and Northwest provinces, Coordinate and participate in students assessments Liaise with external examiners Participate in and liaise with the IPC Committee regularly Participate in the exam and curriculum committees for GEMP 3&4 Actively engage in scholarly research endeavours relevant to family medicine and primary care. Perform other academic and research duties as may be delegated by the Academic Head of Division. Engage in personal and professional development, supported by the DFMPC team. Engage in quarterly performance reviews and management with the Academic Head of Division of Family medicine
Requirements: MBBCH or higher medical qualification Registration as a Medical practitioner with the Health Professions Council of SA Recommendations: The following will be added advantage: Experience in coordinating academic programs within a university Postgraduate medical qualification in Family medicine or advanced medical education Knowledge of South African District health services Understanding of and commitment to primary health care
