Discover Impactful Work:

Learns all aspects of the waste handling and disposal program as well as environmental, health and safety programs. Assists with ensuring safe practices and regulatory compliance in all assigned facilities. Supports products, programs, action plans and services within the department.

A day in the Life:Practices and enforces good safety practices. Supports inquiry response and provides follow-up to waste, health, safety, and environmental issues to employees.Handles and disposes of waste across all labs in all buildings. Makes continuous improvement recommendations as appropriate.Assists with ensuring that all environmental, health or safety requirements are met at assigned site and takes appropriate actions to ensure that any non-compliance issues are resolved. Escalates concerns as appropriate.Learns and maintains up to date knowledge needed to support compliance programs that ensure that procedures meet federal, state and local requirements (i.e. OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.). Assists with updating all health and safety related mandated procedures for assigned facilities as assigned.Participates in determining recommendations on feasible solutions and alternatives for compliance.Ensures safe removal and disposal of hazardous/biological waste from facility on a regular basis. Assists with maintaining and monitoring waste manifest system. Assists with completing report forms and documents for all required regulatory agencies.Supports the development of health and safety training programs, which may include refresher trainings as require d by regulations. May assist with or conduct trainings.Assists with regular walk-downs and monthly/annual self-assessments of assigned facilities. Makes recommendations as appropriate.Keys to Success:EducationBachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational / hands on qualification and experienceExperiencePrevious experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0 to 2 years)
