Associate General Counsel - Environmental, Health and Safety
Associate General Counsel - Environmental, Health and Safety Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing counseling and environmental legal support including compliance assistance, interpretative guidance and managing enforcement cases. Specifically, this position will be responsible for a wide variety of legal counseling on environmental matters including negotiations, permit counseling, due diligence reviews, legal research, transportation/pipeline issues, advising management and employees, and preventive law counseling.

 

Areas of practice will primarily include air regulations (CAA), Superfund /Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), solid waste regulations (RCRA), water matters (CWA), chemical regulations (TSCA), pipeline and hazardous materials regulations (PHMSA), railroad regulations (FRA), product regulations (FDA) and people safety regulations (OSHA) and their state counterparts.Advise management on recent changes in environmental law and regulations that affect the Company and execute the implementation of improvements based on this knowledge.Obtain and manage the services of outside legal consultants/attorneys in an efficient and cost-effective manner as required to compliment available internal legal resources.Anticipate, negotiate, and resolve pre-litigation, environmental claims asserted against the company in collaboration with site personnel and business leaders.Manage the litigation risks of the Company within assigned cases and when called upon for specialized knowledge and expertise on cases assigned to others.Provide needed support to the Company's government affairs team, coordinating on federal and state statutory and regulatory developments in the environmental and safety sectors.Prepare and conduct training programs on all aspects of environmental, health & safety law. Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

 

Bachelor’s and JD degrees from an accredited law school.Admission to at least one U.S. Bar, preferably Texas.4+ years of in-house or law firm experience in environmental law with the ability to independently lead and manage complex legal matters.Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.A proven track record of effectively working with and building collaborative relationships with all levels within the organization.Comfortable working in a multinational, multicultural, manufacturing environment.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to work independently while balancing various tasks and priorities.Ability to travel approximately 10-15 %.

Preferred:

 

Experience with the chemical or energy industry is desirable.
