Associate Engineer, Field and Substation Automation
The Individual will perform engineering assignments (engineering and design) in support of testing, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of Field and Substation Automation equipment for Eversource. Duties will include: Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) configuration, defining Distributed Network Protocol (DNP) points list, device polling rates, defining unsolicited events, producing device DNP templates and settings files, collaborating with outside engineering groups to select the appropriate communication medium for device deployment, evaluating new technologies that will be automated on the Distribution and Transmission systems. Individual is responsible for engineering solutions for devices that are optimally configured to provide the data accurately and timely to support real time systems and operations. Individual will serve as subject matter expert for Substation Automation technologies to ensure that Eversource is utilizing the right mix of products and services to meet operational requirements. Individual will troubleshoot, commission and support maintenance on devices that are connected to the electric transmission and distribution system at Eversource.

Essential Functions: 

Individual will perform engineering assignments (engineering and design) in support of the installation and commissioning of automated electric transmission and distribution substation and field devices for Eversource.Individual will prescribe the appropriate communication settings, i.e DNP, Modbus, etc, for substation and field devices including but not limited to: definition of status, control, and measurement points, polling rate, unsolicited event classificationIndividual will work with outside departments to develop design settings for implementation in the field.Individual will support lab testing to ensure design is working properly prior to field implementationIndividual will support troubleshooting events related to Field and Substation Automation equipment where field device communication is identified to have mis-operated, lost communication, or Field/Substation Automation related alarms are generated.Individual will Understanding of and compliance with requirements and standards set forth by industry organizations and protocols such as IEEE, DNP, modbus etc...Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; possesses and applies the fundamental engineering concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.Maintains accurate records and files.Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.Familiarity with power related software is preferred.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in engineering.                   

Experience:    0-3 years related experience is required. Engineering design experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications:   None

Working Conditions:

Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.

$81,500.00-$90,560.00
