Discover more about our company wide benefits and life at GSK on our webpage Life at GSK | GSK GSK is looking for exceptional, ambitious and experienced group leader for the Spatial Multiplex Imaging team in Non-Clinical Histology, Bioimaging at our R&D site in Upper Providence, US or in Stevenage, UK. This exciting role provides a rare opportunity for the applicant to lead a group of talented scientists based in the UK and in the US focusing on tissue-based spatial biology and associated data analytics to deliver decision-making data for GSK’s portfolio from target validation to late-stage assets. This role will be focused on using cutting edge technologies that bridge imaging and omics domains to enable high-resolution, highly multiplexed localization and quantitation of targeted RNA and protein panels at single cell level or better. This requires a maintenance of expertise and knowledge of new assays and technologies for advanced, multiplexed histological evaluation, from external (e.g. vendors, academic groups) as well as their own bespoke work for project endpoints. In this role you will Utilize expertise in tissue spatial omics technologies (transcriptomics, proteomics, etc), multiplexed imaging, multi-omics integration, and computational/digitally assisted analysis to support GSK programmes and to deliver focused spatial biology transcript/protein/drug measurements to address specific hypotheses around mode/mechanisms of action or spatial localisation of cells/cellular responses that are not possible with bulk tissue or disaggregated cell measurements. Define and drive the scientific strategy of the Spatial Multiplex Imaging team and orchestrate scientific innovation in the field by overseeing all aspects of the facility, managing and developing personnel as appropriate to meet the evolving needs of the company and staying ahead of technological trends including computational technologies. Lead an integrated group of high-performing scientists and manage and oversee the portfolio of projects supported by the group. Provide support to direct reports as needed for assay strategy and design, assay development and optimization, troubleshooting, sample acquisition, data processing, and all aspects of QC ensuring timely delivery of Spatial Multiplex Imaging studies in support of discovery programs. Forge strong partnerships with multidisciplinary teams (including BioImaging, PCS, Research Units, Precision Medicine, HBSM, and Pathology) and with enterprise teams (including Onyx, DaPS, data management, programming, and bioinformatics scientists) to define standards for spatial transcriptomic and proteomic data and to find solutions to expedite the transfer of multi-modality data to key stakeholders. Develop trusted connections in the scientific community (internally and externally to GSK) and support strategic collaborations with academic institutions, and other external partners. Ensure compliance of laboratory staff with data standards and that all activities comply with appropriate Health and Safety legislation, Company Codes of Practise and local rules, and are conducted in a safe manner. Why you? Basic Qualifications & Skills: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: MSc or PhD with extensive years of post-graduate experience in a relevant scientific discipline ( e.g., immunology, molecular or cellular biology, cancer biology, neurobiology, genomics, biomedical science, experimental pathology or related disciplines). Extensive experience in leading a team and managing projects. Able to show definitive decision making to manage workloads, multiple projects and accurately estimate timelines to meet deadlines. Strong knowledge on Human Tissue Act and experience in histotechnology, including specimen processing and routine histology. Strong knowledge and practical experience in working with spatial-omic platforms (Visium, Xenium, CellDive, Cellscape, etc) including the design, implementation and interpretation of spatial-omics experiments and data. Excellent communication and proactive attitude with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences in a balanced, clear and precise manner. Ability to maintain a disciplined approach, with a strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, compliance, scientific rigor, and operational excellence. Preferred Qualifications & Skills: Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply: A good understanding of the drug development process from previous experience working in a biopharmaceutical environment. Experience in using software applications in image analysis, genomic analysis, data analysis/visualization and data interpretation Established external profile and key opinion leadership, including strong publication track record.
