Summary\:
Reporting to the Director of Prospect Research, the Associate Director is responsible for providing complex and detailed prospect research and collaborative prospect management guidance for individuals and organizations to personally support approximately 10 fundraising portfolios with a total of about 1,000 assigned prospects held by Assistant Deans, Major Gift Officers, and central Senior Fundraising staff members. This staff member will employ rigorous evaluation of information from over twenty internal and vendor supported resources to compile insightful and actionable analysis and strategic recommendations in support of the University’s substantial fundraising goals. The Associate Director provides leadership, expertise, and consultation about donors and prospects and provides direction to fundraising teams at several colleges, schools and/or fundraising units throughout Temple University. The Associate Director will support the continued success of Temple University’s major gift and principal gift fundraising efforts by identifying new prospects, particularly those with the capacity to support the University with gifts of $1,000,000 and higher, utilizing a variety of databases, analytical tools, and aggregated public data providers, and through collaborative partnership with Advancement Operations team members. The Associate Director promotes effective prospect management practices. They provide expertise, leadership, and consultation about individual portfolios, prospect pipelines, and individual prospects to fundraisers and share insights and recommendations with managers. They collaborate with all Prospect Development team members to define and reinforce prospect management policies. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience\:
Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years’ experience in prospect research, fundraising programs, information services, financial analysis, social science research, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities\:
· Demonstrated entrepreneurial instincts and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to exercise creativity and initiative in achieving department, team, and individual goals.
· Demonstrated experience with research services such as Lexis-Nexis, iWave, DonorSearch, and Windfall. Skill with a fundraising database or CRM, such as Banner.
· Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze a variety of materials, triangulating among competing and contradictory data from different sources, to compile, evaluate, and disseminate data on funding sources.
· Proven ability to manage multiple, complex tasks and highly collaborative relationships with initiative and independence.
· Perseverance and tenacious attention to detail and quality control measures.
· Excellent verbal and written communication, critical thinking, analytical, and organizational skills.
· Superior customer service across all levels of the organization, and the ability to develop effective relationships with senior administrators, faculty, and staff.
· Ability to work effectively using interpersonal skills and self- awareness; managing interactions with others in a manner that is flexible, coordinated, constructive, engaging and encourages a team spirit.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly personal, medical, financial, and gift data.
· Understanding of applicable data confidentiality standards, including University, HIPAA, GERD, and CPRA requirements. Adherence and familiarity with the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) Statement of Ethics.
· Comprehensive understanding of advancement processes and individual, government, corporate and foundation fundraising principles, trends, and practices.
