Job Description Summary
The Associate Director in the Office of Student Services (OSS) at Penn GSE plays a critical role in enhancing the overall student experience by providing targeted support, developing strategic initiatives, and fostering collaboration across the school and university. This position is responsible for overseeing the Writing Commons Program, offering direct support to Executive Program students, and identifying areas for improvement in the student experience through data analysis and assessment.
Additionally, the Associate Director provides individualized support to students facing academic and personal challenges, working closely with OSS Case Managers, Academic Affairs, and other school partners to implement proactive solutions. The role also contributes to school-wide student success initiatives, including orientation, graduation, and international student integration efforts. Reporting to the Senior Director of OSS, the Associate Director ensures that Penn GSE students receive the necessary support and resources to thrive academically and personally.
Some pre-determined nights & weekends will be required.
Job Description
Responsibilities
+ Oversee operations and provide direct support for the Writing Commons Program including supervision of Graduate Fellows. Collaborate with school and university-wide partners, especially academic programs, university writing support centers, and accommodation supports. Manage budgetary needs of the Writing Commons initiatives.
+ Serve as primary OSS support for Executive Program students. Work directly with GSE Executive Programs to understand the various issues their students face and collaborate with program, school, and university-level partners to address systemic concerns, including but not limited to concerns in and outside of the classroom. Includes meeting with students to address academic challenges and personal difficulties. Build relationships and maintain contact with students throughout students’ time at Penn GSE. Provide resources and referrals.
+ Serve as a resource for all GSE students throughout their journey by providing academic and personal support. Partner with other OSS Case Managers to understand recurring issues that cause crises in students, and work to develop solutions. Collaborate with school partners, especially Academic Affairs and academic programs, to address and solve entrenched issues. Assess current supports and resources and develop additional initiatives to ensure that GSE students are successfully navigating their graduate programs.
+ Collaborate with the Student Success team on School-wide events and initiatives, such as graduation, orientation, and international student integration efforts.
+ Other duties or special projects as assigned by the Senior Director of OSS or the Vice Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs.
Qualifications
+ Master’s Degree and 2-3 years’ experience working with students.
+ Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
+ Understanding of and appreciation of graduate schools
+ Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
+ Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and collaborate on initiatives
+ Ability to navigate highly sensitive matters

Expected Salary Range: $72,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience.
