Position Overview
The Associate Director, Global EHS Management Systems is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic oversight and development of EHS programs and processes. This position will lead and coordinate key aspects of environment, health and safety initiatives, including the management of the EHS compliance program, regulatory self-assessments, and the identification and implementation of corrective actions. The Associate Director will also be tasked with enhancing the safety culture, managing risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the company’s global EHS vision. The role requires a strong focus on knowledge management, governance, and the development of transferable solutions that will help drive continuous improvement and regulatory excellence across the organization.
This position is located onsite in Madison, WI.
Essential Duties
Serve as a strategic EHS leader overseeing the EHS Management Systems, Environmental Management, Occupational Health, Safety, Compliance Assurance, and EHS Information Management Systems.Promote a strong EHS culture in compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local regulations.Consistent demonstration of exceptional leadership qualities, including but not limited to the ability to attract and retain the best team, foster a culture of high performance, lead with integrity, humility, accountability, and courage, and set a clear vision to energize teams towards the future.Effectively manage, support, and guide your team, including, but not limited to delegating tasks and responsibilities, assess employee performance and provide helpful feedback and training opportunities.Lead the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of Exact Sciences' EHS digital management system.Manage regulatory evaluations of all locations through scheduled self-assessments and fresh eyes assessments to ensure compliance.Communicate key EHS issues, emerging regulatory requirements, and recommendations to management.Drive risk reduction by identifying, prioritizing, and implementing corrective actions, ensuring company-wide compliance in an efficient and sustainable manner.Implement and maintain processes for sharing best practices across the organization.Identify, implement, and manage tools for regulatory self-assessments to ensure ongoing compliance.Serve as a subject matter expert for interpreting EHS regulations, acting as a consultative business partner and liaison with internal and external stakeholders.Develop and direct systems and practices that encourage continuous improvement in EHS performance across all sites.Manage and evaluate site risk assessments to identify high-risk operations and develop appropriate action plans.Provide direction on opportunities to reduce chemical and physical stressors in the workplace.Provide technical expertise and advisory support to internal and external stakeholders, particularly in managing regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.Direct, select, and monitor the activities of outside EHS consultants to ensure work is technically correct, cost-effective, and delivered on time.Assist in the development of site-specific EHS programs and plans to ensure compliance and safety.Develop and implement compliance training programs to enhance technical and functional competencies of EHS staff across all sites.Present scenario options and recommendations to executive leadership.Actively demonstrate leadership behaviors and uphold the company’s core values in all aspects of EHS management.Exhibit exceptional interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills; effectively convey key messages through various communication channels.Demonstrate adaptability and leadership in navigating ambiguity and responding to new information and changing circumstances.Support and ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Management System policies and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.Maintain regular and reliable attendance.Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.Ability to work nights and weekends for complex project execution activities, as needed.Ability to maintain confidentiality in all situations, as necessary.Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.Ability and means to travel between Exact Sciences locations.Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, environmental science, occupational safety and health, or a related field.10+ years of experience in EHS management, with at least 7 years in leadership roles, including managing cross-functional teams and direct reports.5+ years of multi country experience.Extensive experience in developing and maintaining EHS programs, auditing, monitoring, and ensuring regulatory compliance.Proficient in developing and using EHS management software, including incident reporting, compliance tracking, and risk assessment tools.Proven experience in implementing and auditing ISO 45001 and 14001 standards.Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage professional staff and subject matter experts.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Experience in managing EHS programs and implementing employee training initiatives.In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies' requirements.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS-specific software tools (e.g., incident reporting, compliance management systems).Proven ability to build and lead cross-functional teams to achieve mutually successful outcomes.Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and track them to completion.Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.Preferred Qualifications
12+ years of experience in EHS management, with at least 10 years in leadership roles, including managing cross-functional teams and direct reports.7+ years of multi country experience.Certified in CSP, CHMM, CEP, CIE, or CIH is highly desirable.Thorough knowledge of EHS information management systems, standards, and best practices.Strong analytical and data-driven skills to evaluate data and develop actionable plans.Understanding of manufacturing technologies and processes, particularly in high-risk industries.#LI-RS1Salary Range:
$152,000.00 - $242,000.00The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to be considered for company stock at hire and on an annual basis.
