Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Associate Dean for Finance and Administration at the Schmidt College of Medicine - Boca Raton, FL.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Works in conjunction with appropriate COM, University, Consortium, and other clinical partners’ personnel to facilitate and coordinate the formal planning process within the COM.Lead strategic planning and vision efforts across administrative and operational functions to advance institutional goals.Ensures that the plan for the COM is aligned with the other components of the enterprise as well as the University Strategic Plan.Identifying opportunities to enhance organizational structure, workflows, and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness in collaboration with COM Stakeholders.Directs and manages the process of developing, refining, and monitoring and reporting on the development and implementation of the COM strategic vision.Financial Operations
Provides leadership and thought partnership for strategic resource planning and unit operations.Assists in developing long-term financial strategies to support the growth and sustainability of the COM, including implementing analysis and frameworks to support strategic decision-making and revenue planning and projections.Provides guidance to Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs or designee on oversight of the practice plan billing service, physician employment and third-party contracts.Provides consultation and support on the financial management of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) program with all affiliated training sites, including financial projections, information management and funds flow for all programs.Determines fiscal priorities based on the strategic vision for COM, including liaison with Academic Practice Plan (APP) leadership.Provides oversight to internal finance team on accounting, development of the annual operating budget, oversight of state, sponsored research and foundation funding, purchasing, and Graduate Medical Education fiscal management.Provides projections, forecasts and analyzes financial impacts, and suggests performance measures to track the effectiveness of COM operations.Provides oversight of the Self Insurance Plan (SIP), the CPO, and all management activities of the faculty practice, oversight of billing and collection services and compliance with HIPAA/HITECH and other applicable regulations.Serves as the Principal Business Officer to the AAMC and representative to the AAMC Group on Business Affairs.Develops and prepares financial data in support of continued LCME accreditation efforts, and oversees the production of timely operational and financial reports to the AAMC.Clinical Operations
Oversee the financial and administrative management of clinical departments and programs to align the COM clinical and academic missions.Provide strategic direction for COM administrative and academic operations and partner with the Department Chairs to execute the department’s strategic vision, determine goals and outcomes on various issues, including operational matters, and develop and implement changes to procedural policies. Ensures organizational effectiveness through efficient delivery of quality and timely services, coordinates complex administrative matters, resolves escalated issues, drives a culture of administrative excellence, and champions diversity and inclusivity throughout the department.Manage clinical revenue cycles, provider productivity, and contract negotiations.Compliance, Risk Management, Policy Development
Develops, implements and provides oversight for compliance with College contracts, affiliation agreements and other legal documents. Liaises with University counsel concerning legal matters.Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.Donor and Community Engagement
Work closely with the Dean, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, and COM Development Office on donor-related activities.Participate in donor events and fundraising initiatives as needed.Assure the development of proposals and reports for major gifts and endowment management.Represent the College in the community and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including local organizations, healthcare institutions, civic leaders, and government agencies.Lead initiatives that strengthen the College's visibility and positive impact within the community.Collaborate with stakeholders to address healthcare needs through outreach and service programs.Personnel and Dean’s Office & Administrative Operations
Directs and supervises the Dean’s Office support staff.Oversees administrative aspects of COM recruitment and retention activities.Collaborates with COM leadership to develop and implement plans regarding operations infrastructure, processes, and personnel to accommodate a more efficient/effective environment.Serves as key member of the Dean’s Office responsible for central coordination of all activities ensuring information flow to and from the Dean’s Office.Works in conjunction with Facilities Management and IT and directs the COM’s Director for Facilities Operations.Oversee administrative services, including but not limited to human resources, recruitment, facilities management, and IT.Develop and implement operational policies and procedures.Provide strategic leadership and oversight to business and administrative operations to ensure the day-to-day needs of the COM community are met.Oversee space management and planning to optimize the utilization of resources in support of COM core activities.Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the Dean.The College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University seeks scholars who are committed to supporting the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds and to thoughtfully engaging all communities in higher education. Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Master’s degree, particularly MBA/MHA
Ten plus years of progressive leadership experience in finance, administration, and clinical operations within a healthcare or academic environment, preferably within a college of medicine.
Strong understanding of the healthcare and academic environment.
Experience in practice plan management, including physician billing, revenue cycle management, and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
