Associate Conduct Officer
**9508BR** **Position Title:** Associate Conduct Officer **Organization:** Center for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution **Job Responsibilities:** Adjudicate student misconduct through the RIT Conduct process and management of the Center for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution: + Assess and respond to incoming reports by analyzing and prioritizing cases, issuing interim and remedial actions. + Serve as a hearing officer for medium and high-level cases, including Title IX cases, and those resulting in suspension or expulsion including the review of formal complaints or reports for live hearing preparation, facilitation of the live hearing meeting including questioning of parties and witnesses, policy application and determination of responsibly, in cases where policy violations are found, determinations for sanctioning are determined, and finally responsibility to draft and issue a written determination regarding responsibility and sanctioning. After the conclusion of the hearing and issuing of the outcome, the hearing officer role includes participation in any appeal processes and the future tracking of sanction completion and determination of eligibility of a student to be released from holds. + For Title IX Cases (D19.0 & C27.0) all of the standard hearing officer responsibilities apply AND there is an additional requirement to complete 8 plus hours of annual training. + Determine appropriate responses to misconduct and follow up with students. + Use an electronic database system (Maxient) to monitor, manage, and maintain information related to all student cases. + Develops and assists with conflict resolution, mediation, restorative justice, and the de-escalation of disputes Conduct Administrative Initiatives. In addition to the direct responsibility of serving as a hearing officer for medium and high-level cases, this role will be assigned oversight of a slate of related administrative functions. These functions support or extend the work of Student Conduct beyond formal hearings and are essential to the overall management of student behavior on campus. Regardless of the specific assignment, the associate hearing officer will be responsible to lead the evaluation and analysis of the process, develop and implement process improvements based on feedback and evaluation, coordinate with campus and external resources and stakeholders, and represent the department mission and goals through the project. At any given time, this role will be assigned leadership for department administrative functions, including but not limited to: + Case Creation and Assignment – including the review of hundreds of Public Safety and related reports weekly to assess likelihood of policy violations, severity of potential policy violations and the appropriate assignment to a hearing officer based on level, training and work load analysis. + Pre-Hearing Meetings – lead and implement pre-hearing meetings when requested by students + Advocate program coordination (recruitment, training, recognition) for all campus partners in the advocate program. Collaborate with TIX office for TIX specific advocates as an extension of this overall effort. + Marketing and Communication Brand Ambassador and Internal Communication Development (videos, website, Maxient letters, etc.) + Club and Organization Outreach and Coordination for conflict resolution, policy and bylaw review, organization related policies such as hazing, and adjudication of cases involving organizations as the respondent party. + Educational Sanction Curriculum development, training, assignment and evaluation. + DMCA cases and coordination- management of these specialized cases of digital media violations (piracy and related) in partnership with ITS, ISO and Public Safety. + EH&S/Housing Auxiliary cases and coordination – management of these specialized cases of housing violations (property damage, smoke detector tampering, etc.) + Academic Integrity cases and coordination – management of these specialized cases referred from Academic Affairs (D.8) Shared supervision for Residence Life staff + Res Life Staff Coordination, Training, “Supervision” for residential and low risk cases. Resident Coordinator (RC) staff carry a student conduct workload of low to medium cases. The Associate Conduct Officer assigned to this team will oversee the training and development of this aspect of their work, contribute to the performance evaluation specific to this aspect of their work and determine future case assignment based on demonstrated skill. + Residence Life “in house” staff. Three members of the Residence Life team hold an embedded assignment for approximately 20% of their work effort per week. The Associate Conduct Officer assigned to this team will oversee the training and development of this aspect of their work, contribute to the performance evaluation specific to this aspect of their work and determine future case assignment based on demonstrated skill. This embedded team is designed to develop skill to manage medium to higher risk caseloads, including some TIX cases. Participate in ongoing professional development, provide professional competency development for conduct staff, volunteers and partners. The Associate Conduct Officer is responsible for administering the student conduct process as a primary hearing officer in a range of high-level cases, including Title IX. Additionally, this role has an administrative emphasis on further developing our unique programs including the Advocacy Initiative, Educational Sanctions, and the Residence Life Partnership as well as other outreach opportunities, in a manner that ensures student development, consistent and fair application of University policy, and respectful treatment of all participants.
