Associate Chair of Education and Training/Open Rank
University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill
Employment Type: Permanent Faculty
Vacancy ID: FAC0005479
Salary Range: Dependent on Qualifications/Experience
Position Summary/Description:
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine invites applications for a fixed-term faculty appointment at the rank of associate or full professor to serve as a leader (Associate Chair) for the education and training mission of the department. Appointment at the rank of associate professor is preferred. This recruitment seeks individuals with experience developing and delivering courses in the biomedical or life sciences that implement state-of-the-art pedagogical methods and include course assessments that have been developed in consultation with an educational psychologist or someone of similar expertise. Our goal with this position is to hire someone who can serve as a change agent for our education and training mission. We would like to modernize our graduate curriculum by creating new modular courses, expand our MS degree program, create outreach programs with undergraduate institutions in rural North Carolina, and reimagine the education and training leadership team to centralize most activities around the associate chair’s office with the support of a student services specialist, other education and training administrators in the department, including our Education and Training Committee. One major goal of the reorganization is to streamline the role for the director of graduate studies to include assignments that would benefit from experience as a member of the microbiology and immunology graduate training faculty and permit this individual to fully engage the research mission of the department.
