Job Description

Location:

New York, NY

WIRED is looking for an obsessively organized, intellectually curious, collaborative professional to support the Global Editorial Director and the Deputy Global Editorial Director, as well as other executive team leaders.

WIRED is an ambitious 30-year-old publication focused on how technology and science are shaping the world today, and how to make the future better for everyone. Our operation includes a daily website, a print magazine, video, podcasts, and many other exciting projects.

In this job you will provide essential support to global leaders in New York and London, including but not limited to booking travel and scheduling meetings, helping organize office events, wrangling special projects, and collecting research to prepare editors for interviews and conferences. You will need to be comfortable juggling multiple responsibilities, managing deadlines, knowing which tasks to prioritize, maintaining clear, prompt and effective communication with many people, and maintaining strict confidentiality over some of the information you handle.

An ideal candidate would be based in New York, the headquarters of our parent company, Condé Nast, and comfortable navigating issues and solving problems across time zones. Because the role supports New York and London time zones, the working hours will be 8-4pm Eastern Standard time.

This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to work in a creative environment and wants to develop new skills. Previous holders of similar roles have eventually gone on to either business management or operations roles, or newsroom positions such as fact-checking and editing. WIRED is a collaborative publication and encourages everyone on the team to contribute ideas. That said, this is not an editing or writing job. Preference will be given to candidates who are excited by the opportunity to help WIRED run like clockwork and be a great working environment.

This role reports to WIRED’s Global Director of Operations.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assist with various scheduling tasks, expense paperwork, and booking travel for the GED, DGED and three other senior leaders

• Assist with scheduling interviews for job candidates and facilitate communication with candidates

• Assist with onboarding new hires and speakers for UK events

• Research story topics and interview subjects for senior editors

• Help organize internal office events

• Tackle special projects, such as helping to coordinate award entries and some tasks related to public-facing US+ UK events

• Greet and escort outside visitors to the office

* Other administrative tasks as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience maintaining confidentiality.

• Strong communications skills: clean, concise prose and good grammar.

• Experience doing research or information-gathering for projects and reports.

• Proficiency  using the Google suite of tools including Google Sheets  and familiarity with project management tools such as Trello, Asana or Airtable.

• Demonstrated professionalism and good judgment when communicating with internal teams and members of the public.

• Comfortable working in a CMS such as Wordpress, or willingness to learn.

These skills are not required, but would give candidates a great foundation for succeeding in this role:

• Familiarity with WIRED’s writers and news coverage.

• Familiarity with editorial processes.

• An interest in technology, science, internet culture, or business news.

• Basic knowledge of HTML.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $60,000-$68,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.

In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
