OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Technical Designer is responsible for assisting in the design, illustration and technical aspects for our private brand apparel products. The Assistant Technical Designer provides support to the Technical Designers in performing all functions for their categories in the vertical brand business. The Assistant Technical Designers will learn how to maintain the design integrity, understand the fit/balance of a basic garment, the construction methods used in mass production and how to adhere to the T&A deadlines.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Fit Development
Assist Technical Designers with the design, line development, product standard maintenance and specifications in order to development and gain an understanding of the function of technical design.
Own preparation for fit sessions by measuring and preparing samples to ensure timely fit session. Responsible for model measurement including scheduling, communicating to both manager and model is model if out of tolerance, discuss options and course of action. Capture team feedback by taking appropriate notes and writing clear/concise comments during fittings and meetings that the vendors/team can understand and aligns with brand standards.
Communicate with overseas offices and vendors (both internal and external) on updates or modifications to product details. Respond to sample development questions as needed.
Monitor production process for samples from first prototype through production approval; Organize and maintain garments in the sample room including the filing of information and hard copy patterns.
Execute organizing pattern blocks, overlaps and comparing patterns in Optitex for manager; plot patterns for review and corrections as needed.
Attend key milestone and weekly brand meetings to gain insight and learnings about the product category and brand expectations
Execute and follow up on actions needed to meet deadlines of the Time and Action calendar
Tech Pack Creation and Data Maintenance
Execute the DSG Tech Design and Fit Process to ensure spec integrity across products/categories including measurements and garment evaluation.
Communicate with overseas business partners for tech pack and sample development questions.
Update and maintain the Sample Tracking Reports accurately. Track arrival of samples and assist in prioritizing workload with Technical Designer. Pull data/prioritize vendor data by accurately summarizing key call-outs and recommendations

Perform administrative and clerical duties as they relate to the technical design function, including managing updates sample fittings and deadlines on the Time and Action calendar.
Competitive Research & Analysis
Purchase competitor's samples, measure samples, and document specs onto competitive review forms.
Review product specifications and current measurements. Independently analyze the changes needed to the garment and how they relate to the pattern and the measurement specification and make recommendations to the Assoc. TD/TD.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Apparel, Construction or Textiles
1-3 Years of industry experience, Athletic Apparel, Sportswear or Outdoor Apparel environment preferred
Previous experience with Adobe Illustrator required
Working Knowledge of Optitex
Experience in using Microsoft Excel to create and maintain reports
Experience with PDS patternmaking system preferred
