DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Animation, Film, & Television invites applications for a Non-Tenure Track (NTT) faculty position in Animation & Visual Effects (VFX). Design and teach courses in animation, VFX, and gaming, including potential coursework in the following areas: gaming engines, specifically Unity and Unreal Engine; generative AI tools and workflows; and industry-standard VFX software (e.g., Houdini, Nuke). Successful candidates will prepare students for emerging opportunities in the creative and technical sectors. They will also be excited to help update and grow our curriculum to incorporate advancements in generative AI to ensure alignment with industry trends. Candidates will help build partnerships with industry professionals, companies, and studios to foster networking and internship opportunities. They should also be excited to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects across units in the University as well as externally. NTT Faculty are expected to contribute to the curricular and co-curricular life of the program and School, including support for student projects and assisting with portfolio reviews. Faculty members also have the opportunity to take leadership roles with a range of signature educational opportunities in the School, such as the growth of the School’s Los Angeles program. Faculty are also expected to conduct office hours; participate in department and College meetings; provide University service as appropriate; and participate in the overall curricular and co-curricular life of the College and the University.
Position is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure track appointment, with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTTP procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate must have professional experience in the animation, VFX, or gaming industries. The must have at least a bachelors or higher in Animation, VFX, Game Design, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Candidates must have demonstrated proficiency in Unity, Unreal Engine, and VFX software such as Houdini, Maya, Nuke, or similar. Should have strong knowledge of generative AI tools and their applications in animation, VFX, and gaming. Teaching experience in higher education or professional training settings is highly desirable. Also critical are effective communication, collaboration, mentorship skills, and the ability to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
THE SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA:
Founded in 2012, the School of Communication and Media offers a range of dynamic programs in communication and media to a talented and diverse student population of approximately 2000 students. Due to its ongoing growth and success, the School will become the College of Communication and Media beginning in 2025, allowing for even greater opportunity for student success and national recognition. Offering degrees in film and television, social media and public relations, advertising, journalism and digital media, sports communication, animation and visual effects, and a new MA in Strategic Communication & Media, the School prepares the next generation of communication and media practitioners and leaders. It maintains several critical strategic partnerships, including membership in NBCU Academy and the summer residency program for Ghetto Film School. The School houses award-winning student programs that include WMSC Radio, The Montclarion newspaper,Hawk Communications PR Agency, the Red Hawk Sports Network, Hawk+ OTT streaming platform, a Los Angeles residential program, and News Lab, as well as the Joetta Di Bella and Fred C. Sautter III Center for Strategic Communication and the Center for Cooperative Media, the latter of which serves the public by working to grow and strengthen local and collaborative journalism. Recent national recognitions for the School include an Edward R. Murrow Award, several Marconi Award nominations, and two College Television Awards from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, a finalist in the Coca Cola Refreshing Films competition, a second place finish in the Bateman PR competition, and several SVG Sports Media nominations. Due to this ongoing growth and success, the School will become a separate college at the University beginning in 2025, allowing for even greater opportunity for student success and national recognition.
