Location : 26 Wales Street, Dorchester, MA Pay Range : $16.00 per hour 40 hours per week The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for helping the classroom teacher conduct a program and activities for children that are age appropriate. This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job. a) Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or occasional continuous basis. b) Grasp, push, pull objects such as reference materials, files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. c) Ability to load and to change settings, devices, fixtures, on various equipment used in and around a classroom environment d) Operate telephone and other electronic communication devices. e) Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. f) Ability to be creative, original, intuitive, and perceptive. g) Ability to think logically and critically. h) Ability to envision a project from beginning to end. i) Ability to solve complex problems, make appropriate judgments and decisions j) Ability to help classroom teacher Duties & Responsibilities: a) Assist Classroom Teacher with implementing the daily curriculum. b) Work as a team to collaborate and communicate with parents, teachers, administration, and other employees at The Salvation Army. c) Foster a nurturing atmosphere. Assure that a method of positive discipline is always used. Make sure that all aspects of the classroom are running smoothly, transitions, routines, nap time, health and safety procedures, etc. Maintain a safe, stable, and loving environment. d) Make sure the classroom is clean, the materials are stocked, and the door is locked at the end of each day. e) Assist The Children’s Learning Center Administration and Salvation Army staff in ensuring that The Children’s Learning Center continues to provide a high-quality program to the families we serve. f) Be sure to voice your suggestions and needs about enhancing your work in the classroom with the classroom teacher and Director. g) Pursue activities to further your own professional development.
