Assistant Residence Manager
Since 1893, Helen Keller Services (HKS) has been committed to improving the lives of individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or have combined hearing and vision loss. HKS serves the New York City/Long Island area from its new headquarters in dynamic downtown Brooklyn and the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youth and Adults of Sands Point, New York, which has a network of regional offices that extends HKS’ reach across the United States. We currently have an exciting career available to join the HKS team as an Assistant Residence Manager in Wantagh, NY. The Assistant Residence Manager functions involve assisting with the operation of the Individualized Residential Alternative (IRA) located in Wantagh, NY. The IRA provides residential services for 6 developmentally disabled, and visually impaired individuals. This position is a full-time position and requires night and weekend work as well as 24-hour availability by telephone. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES + Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training all staff under the supervision of the Residence Manager. + Supervises and assists with evaluating the work performance of all staff under the supervision of the Residence Manager. + Provide on-site coaching to staff to identify best practices, individualized strategies, and techniques. Assists with the completion of the annual staff performance reviews. + Ensures consistent and timely communication among staff on varying shifts related to consumer programs or needs, agency activities, and policies. + Works with the nutritionist to determine menus by the dietary needs and food preferences of the individuals. Cook meals as necessary. + Collects data, insights, and feedback from staff to develop proactive plans that promote growth and encourage maximum independence and interdependence in all areas of living. + Assists in locating resources in the community where the individuals can participate in activities and/or volunteer opportunities. + Provide staff training on HKSB policies and procedures and OPWDD regulations. Monitors staff competencies and program compliance in these areas. + Monitors staff competencies as outlined in the OPWDD Core Competencies. + Assists with creating the weekly work schedule and submits payroll as requested by the Residence Manager. + Supports the RN by ensuring amap procedures and best practices are implemented by amap staff. + Accompanies individuals on medical appointments and follows through on recommendations or follow-up treatments. Schedules and co-facilitates Life Plan meetings for each individual + Works cooperatively with Quality Assurance (QA) staff. + Review the progress of consumers and incorporation of goals into each individualized residential habilitation plan. + Assists with monitoring the quality and timeliness of written documentation and reports. Writes the monthly reshab summaries for each consumer by compiling information from the daily reshab notes. + Assists with the review of all of the monthly billing. Assists with the monitoring of the monthly budget and expenses. + Assists with ensuring the completion of annual satisfaction surveys for each consumer. + Interfaces with guardians, advocates, Care Coordinators, and OPWDD surveyors. Acts as the liaison for contacting outside agencies such as the SSA, Medicaid, etc. + Ensure the house operates in compliance with OPWDD and Medicaid regulations. + Ensures all OPWDD-mandated trainings are completed and documented. + Assists individuals with tasks such as showering and laundry. Monitors consumer satisfaction, safety, and accessibility. + Transports individuals to day programs as needed. + Assists with the supervision of fire drills on a regular basis. + Maintains the home in a clean and orderly manner including the upkeep of furnishings and living areas. + Maintains and ensures clean upkeep of Agency vehicle. + Responds to emergency situations, consumer illness, building maintenance, or fire by notifying the required personnel and/or providing leadership and decision-making if necessary to take appropriate course of action. + Covers shifts as needed including holidays, snow days, and other unplanned needs. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE + Associate’s degree required; Bachelor's degree in special education, Psychology, or related field strongly preferred. + Minimum of one year’s supervisory experience in a Residential Setting serving individuals with multiple disabilities. Experience working with blind individuals or those with loss of vision preferred. + Knowledge of the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) regulation and policy required. + Knowledge of MS Office and Internet required. + Strong report-writing skills are required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS + Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s license. + CPR, First Aid, AMAP preferred Job Type: 30H Week.
