Assistant Research Scientist
The researcher will work in the group of Prof. Jonathan Weare on development and mathematical analysis of random algorithms for the extreme (or infinite dimensional) linear system solve. Examples of applications where such problems arise include spectral analysis of massive data sets, analysis of short simulation data from high dimensional stochastic processes, and electronic structure problems. The candidate's primary focus will be to help establish convergence bounds for the algorithms with an eye toward understanding when they do (or do not) provide performance improvements over deterministic approaches. Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics with research experience in probability theory and/or numerical analysis.
