Position Overview

The Assistant Quarry Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing the aggregate operations at a quarry.  Under the direction of the Site Quarry Manager, the Assistant Quarry Manager will ensure that quarry site operates efficiently and successfully.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties & Functions) General supervision of employees including timekeeping, performance management, weekly scheduling, management of time off requests, and assignment of duties. Approve and forward all timesheets to payroll personnel. Supervise entire operation including daily start-up of all plants and production throughout the day and night operation. Overseeing of daily maintenance operations and/or daily shutdown periods. Assist with cost tracking, production quantities and parts ordering Day-to-day planning, scheduling, and coordinating. Communication with Operations Team on current conditions/situations. Troubleshooting of issues and problems that may occur. Weekly scheduling of employees including management of time off requests. Coordination of drilling and blasting schedules. Compliance with work rules and government regulations that are established. Analyze results of plant operations to pinpoint the variances from plans. Analyze and correct hazardous conditions. Request necessary personnel to staff the plant for the forecast level of operations. Assign tasks, train, and check progress of personnel, frequently keeping them advised of their progress. Assume responsibility for training a qualified lead person to fill in or replace Quarry Manager whenever necessary. Maintain properties in good condition and appearance. Carry out approved plans for plant rehabilitation and beautification. Identify deficiencies and implement a plan for continuous improvement. Effectively manage staff by setting clear performance objectives, providing regular feedback, and providing development through training. Direct mine and pit planning. Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary. Appraise performance, including annual evaluations and new employee 60-day evaluations. Address complaints and resolve problems in a timely manner. Assist with Interviewing and hiring process as necessary. Planning, assigning, and directing work. Other duties as assigned. Skills & Specifications Ability to effectively prioritize assignments to meet long-term and short-term deadlines. Able to write reports, document findings, and procedures, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public. Able to work various times during day, night, or weekend hours, at various locations. Able to have set-up knowledge and to show leadership qualities. Able to effectively communicate in verbal and written form to employees, management, executives, and customers. Excellent phone etiquette, speaking voice and professional appearance. Able to identify, define and resolve problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in mathematical, written or oral form. Able to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Able to interpret written and oral instructions, and to read, analyze and interpret, operating & maintenance instructions or regulations. Adhere to all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency. Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate. Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices. Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the public always. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision. Report to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to begin work at the designated start time. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual. Strict adherence to P.J. Keating policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual. Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. Education/Professional Experience High school Diploma or equivalent, five years of experience in stone production and quality control; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Physical Requirements
