No If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary The State University of New York at Cortland plans to hire an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department to teach courses in psychology, based on department need and the candidate’s specialization, conduct research, and engage in service beginning in Fall 2025.

The Psychology Department at SUNY Cortland offers a B.A. and B.S. in Psychology, a minor in Psychology, a minor in Psychology in Schools, and a minor in Forensic Psychology. Our typical class size is 30, while class sizes in upper division labs and capstone courses tend to be around 12-20. We currently have over 300 Psychology majors and 15 tenure-track faculty with a typical teaching load of 3 courses per semester. Our program is aligned with the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines for an undergraduate psychology major. Faculty have access to modern research and teaching facilities. The department is housed in the original, historically renovated Old Main building.

Develop or continue a program of active research, preferably involving undergraduate research assistants. Additional responsibilities include engaging in service on departmental and university committees, participating in university-wide governance, advising undergraduate students, and maintaining a commitment to undergraduate education.



Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports to the academic department chair Works closely with department faculty Required Qualifications Ph.D. in psychology or a related field by time of appointment Preferred Qualifications Preferred candidates will be able to effectively teach foundational courses in our department (Introductory Psychology, Statistics, Research Methods) and/or complement the needs of our School Psychology minor program (e.g., applied behavior analysis, academic development, child-focused and/or school-based mental health, psychological testing). Evidence of quality teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level. A research program that could include undergraduate research assistants. A demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate students with diverse lived experiences and of all academic backgrounds and social and cultural identities.
