The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.

Description of Primary Duties
Teaching applied oboe and/or bassoon performance and pedagogy at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as double reed methods. Recruiting and mentoring double reed students pursuing degrees i performance and music education following core principles of cultural competence, community engagement, and ethical leadership An active commitment to recruiting and building the oboe and bassoon studios Depending on expertise, the candidate may also teach additional courses in areas such as music history, music theory, or music education

The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.

DMA in oboe or bassoon Demonstrated excellence teaching university level oboe or bassoon lessons Demonstrated excellence as a professional performer on oboe or bassoon Evidence of effective studio recruitment at the university level Experience coaching chamber ensembles Professional Experience as an orchestral or chamber musician on oboe or bassoon
