General Statement The Department of Education at Montana State University (MSU) is inviting applications for Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership. This position is a tenure-track academic year appointment. Selected faculty will have responsibilities for teaching (50%), Research and other scholarly activities (40%), and service (10%). We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and are able to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University. Duties and Responsibilities We seek applicants who are able to develop and teach graduate courses in educational leadership; collaborate with public school teachers and administrators, education stakeholders, and professional associations; and conduct a program of research that focuses on educational leadership. We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse university community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership or related field upon start date. Five years’ experience as a licensed or certified K-12 school administrator. Demonstrated skill in Instructional Leadership at P-12 level. Demonstrated cohesive research agenda that includes peer-reviewed publications or presentations. Demonstrated experience working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students and stakeholders within the P-12 educational community. Demonstrated potential for developing innovative projects to develop leadership and improve P-12 schooling across Montana and beyond.


Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Recent experience as a school system superintendent. Demonstrated experience teaching educational leadership courses and performing graduate level advising. Demonstrated potential for seeking external funding and grant project management. Experience working with rural or Indigenous communities. Demonstrated commitment to developing partnerships with P-12 schools and school systems as well as state agencies, local communities, tribal colleges and other universities. Excellent written and oral communication skills.


The Successful Candidate Will
Have a well-articulated research agenda in educational leadership which includes a strong commitment to scholarly productivity, and community outreach.


Teach educational leadership courses at the master’s and doctoral level (such as School Law and Policy Studies, School Finance, and Supervision and Instructional Leadership) as well as advise graduate students and supervise dissertation research.
Have an appreciation of diverse constituencies and add intellectual diversity to the program, department, college, and the community.
Must contribute to the university’s land grant mission and will provide service to the students, program, department, and the community.
