Essential functions (job duties):
Wayne State University's Division of Engineering Technology (ET) has an available position for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in its Mechanical Engineering Technology program. The position is ideal for a candidate with a passion for teaching, mentoring, and applied research in Mechanical Engineering Technology, with particular focus on the area of robotics and their industrial applications. The target start date is August 2025. Tenure will reside in the Division of Engineering Technology.
The incumbent will be required to teach graduate as well as undergraduate level courses in the program, including (but not limited to) Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines; Mechatronics; Robot Kinematics, Dynamics, and Control. Additional responsibilities include engagement in scholarly activities including research in robotics related areas, publication in academic journals, presentations at professional conferences, and seeking extramural grants; and providing service to the ET Division, the College and the University.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach contractual load of courses as assigned by the Division Chair.
Provide mentoring to students.
Engage in scholarly activities to further organize and contribute to growth of the body of knowledge in their respective disciplines, and/or to explore interdisciplinary implications.
Engage in pursuits that enable them to remain current in their discipline.
Serve on departmental committees and other committees across the university.
Attend and participate in scheduled departmental meetings and functions.
Perform related Departmental duties as required, including participation in the assessment, continuous improvement, and accreditation activities.
Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
Robotics related research and teaching experience.
Evidence of research participation and dissemination of research findings.
Applications must include 1) a specific letter of interest, 2) complete vita or resume that includes three references with contact information, 3) brief statements of teaching philosophy, including a list of courses taught, 4) statement of research interests and areas, and 5) a diversity statement demonstrating the candidate’s awareness of diversity themes and their incorporation into the candidate’s teaching materials and methods; or how the candidate’s personal background equipped the candidate to deal with diversity among students, faculty and staff.

Preferred qualifications:
• Evidence of successful college teaching experience of Mechanical Engineering or related courses. • Demonstrated network and interactions with the advanced manufacturing industry through training, practice, service, research programs and similar partnerships. • Dedication to actively providing leadership to students such as student club sponsorship, competition team coaching, organizing and implementing of similar student activities. • Relevant industrial experience in an advanced manufacturing environment.
