Assistant Operations Controller

What makes our company culture unique is we have mastered the ability to balance the standards of a large corporate company while maintaining our small business family style culture. **Essential Job Summary:** The Assistant Operations Controller is an integral part of the Finance team, responsible for preparing accounting for an assigned business unit including participating in the full-cycle accounting and month-end close process, budgeting, forecasting, performance tracking and analysis, management reporting, and preparation and review of periodic financial reports and schedules. The Assistant Operations Controller will work closely with the Operations Controller and management of the assigned business unit to continuously monitor and analyze financial results, and recommend and implement adjustments necessary to meet budgetary, financial, and operational goals. **Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.** + Review and prepare journal entries and other accounting transactions while ensuring all accounting activities are processed timely, accurately and in accordance with GAAP, company procedures and other regulatory requirements.  + Prepare, maintain and update budget and forecasting models for assigned business unit, including both cash and income statement forecasts. + Create and distribute regular weekly/daily operational reports.  + Utilize the general ledger and reporting system to run/update financial statements and reports.  + Assist Operations Controller in preparing the monthly budget to actual reports, analyzing variances and providing concise reporting and explanations to management.   + Assist in preparation of schedules and samples for auditors. + Review weekly payroll reports for accuracy. Prepare analysis for operations departments and distribute accordingly. **Requirements and Qualifications:** + Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification and/or MBA preferred. + 5-8 years accounting experience.   + Experience from the waste industry strongly preferred.  + Strong knowledge of GAAP and state (NY/NJ/PA/OH) and federal regulatory requirements.  + Strong computer proficiency in G/L systems (Great Plains with Management Reporter experience is preferred).  + Knowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliation.  + Excellent administration and organizational skills.  + Excellent oral and written communication skills.  + High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.  **Additional Information** This job description is intended to be an accurate representation of the general functions of the job, rather than exhaustive list of duties, responsibilities, or experience.
