The Office of International Education (OIE) at Carnegie Mellon University serves as a central hub for international students, scholars, and faculty. It provides comprehensive support services, including immigration advising, cultural adjustment assistance, and programming to promote cross-cultural understanding. Through its initiatives, the OIE fosters a vibrant and inclusive campus community, enriching the educational experience for all students and promoting global engagement and collaboration.
OIE is seeking an Assistant Director to join the team to focus primarily on immigration-related matters, including immigration advising and precise record-keeping as required by federal law while following university policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities include providing on-going coordination with university departments before and after student and scholar arrival, program development and implementation, policy development, advocacy, and special projects. In addition to advising responsibilities, the Associate Director will also have responsibility for an area of specialized focus such as undergraduate issues, graduate issues, or scholar issues. This role collaborates closely with other OIE staff in addition to university colleagues in various units including academic departments, the Career and Professional Development Center, the Student Academic Success Center, University Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Enrollment Services.
Core Responsibilities:
Oversee an area of specialized focus (undergraduate issues, graduate issues, or scholar issues)Manage immigration process for international students/scholars.Advise foreign students/scholars on immigration issues and related academic, personal, social and acculturation issues.Work on special projects and programs (i.e., Orientation) related to international student/scholar quality of life.Outreach to academic and administrative departments in support of international issuesRecordkeeping: databases, filesRole as liaison to US government agencies, and off-campus entitiesProfessional development and other duties as assigned in service to OIE and the broader Carnegie Mellon community through committee work, etc.Other duties as assigned.Inclusion and cultural sensitivity are valued competencies at CMU. Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree1-3 years of student services experience.Experience in higher education preferred.A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.Requirements:
