Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Transfer Pathways and Advising plays a critical role in supporting transfer and post-traditional students, ensuring a seamless transition to the university. This position provides advising services to prospective transfer students, oversees the development and maintenance of Transfer Guides, and collaborates with academic departments to establish clear transfer pathways.
In addition to guiding incoming students, the Assistant Director serves as an advocate for enrolled transfer students, helping them navigate challenges and connect with campus resources. This role also works closely with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen institutional partnerships, enhance transfer pathways, and ensure compliance with articulation agreements.
A key priority of this position is improving credit mobility and minimizing credit loss, allowing students to maximize their previously earned credits and stay on track toward degree completion.
Transfer Advising and Support
+ Provide pre-enrollment and supplemental advising to transfer and post-traditional students, supporting academic planning, credit articulation, and university navigation.
+ Conduct advising sessions in various formats, including virtual, in-person, and off-site locations.
+ Serve as a resource on transfer policies, degree requirements, and student support services, advocating for transfer student success.
Transfer Pathway Development and Coordination
+ Maintain and update Transfer Guides in collaboration with academic colleges, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the NC Comprehensive Articulation Agreement ( CAA ).
+ Collaborate with institutional and external partners to enhance transfer pathways and ensure credit mobility and transparency in transfer credit processes.
+ Support various transfer student populations, including Early/Middle College and Dual Enrollment students.
Administrative and Campus Engagement
+ Manage inquiries via the University Transfer Center email and provide timely, accurate communication.
+ Serve on university committees, contribute to policy discussions, and collaborate with campus partners to enhance transfer student experiences.
+ Develop advising materials and participate in professional development to improve student support strategies.
+ Analyze transfer data to inform policy improvements and student success initiatives.
Minimum Experience / Education:
+ Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
+ At least two years of experience in academic advising in a relevant higher education setting, preferably involving North Carolina community college or university transfer students.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
+ Experience advising students at a North Carolina Community College, with knowledge of the NC Comprehensive Articulation Agreement ( CAA ) and the transfer process.
+ Strong collaboration skills, with a track record of working across departments and institutions to improve transfer pathways, credit mobility, and student success.
+ Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to support students, resolve concerns, and engage effectively with faculty, staff, and institutional partners.
+ Proven ability to manage multiple projects or initiatives, demonstrating strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
+ Experience advocating for student populations and influencing institutional policies or support structures to enhance the transfer experience.
