Stanford Engineering is home to 11 departments and programs that range in student population size, academic focus, and each have unique local subcultures. Centrally, as a part of the Dean’s Office, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) supports the mission of helping students thrive in Stanford’s School of Engineering.
The School of Engineering’s Office of Student Affairs seeks an enthusiastic, detail-oriented colleague to serve as the Assistant Director of Student Services. The Assistant Director will oversee undergraduate academic requirements and degrees across the School of Engineering. They will be responsible for leading undergraduate degree progress for all students and programs in the school, which will include advising students, guiding department student services staff, processing petitions and exception requests, updating degree programs, and conferring degrees. The Assistant Director will have the unique opportunity to shape the school’s future workflow for degree progress in alignment with the new university-wide degree audit system. In addition, the Assistant Director will coordinate academic compliance reporting to support graduate degree progress in the departments and programs in the school. The Assistant Director of Student Services reports to the Director of Graduate Finance and Academic Policy and works closely with students, staff, and faculty throughout the School of Engineering.
The Assistant Director will be an expert in all aspects of degree progress and policy. Strong candidates will be thorough and precise, personable, and skilled at sharing complex, sometimes difficult information in a digestible way. We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting the academic experience, has direct experience working with students and faculty, can manage multiple projects independently with a high degree of accuracy, and who possesses a desire to innovate and collaborate in support of student academic success.

In this role, you will:
Serve as the primary subject matter expert for all facets of undergraduate degree progress in the School of Engineering to students, department staff, central Academic Advising, and other campus stakeholders. Administer an area or program in student services, evaluate and recommend decisions on program eligibility. For example, run schoolwide academic compliance reporting for graduate and undergraduate populations and support department staff through resolving issues such as expired candidacy, missing grades, etc. Lead, create and contribute to development of business practices and organizational change to improve processes and workflow. Specifically, this person will become the school expert in the MAP (My Academic Path) degree audit system and lead the creation of a new degree progress workflow that serves the unique needs of all undergraduate programs in the School of Engineering. Provide advice to students on the full range of issues related to undergraduate degree progress in the School of Engineering including, but not limited to, AP/transfer credit, petitions and exceptions, Individually Designed Majors (IDMEN), and preparation for graduation, in order to guide them in making appropriate choices and decisions. Collaborate with faculty leadership, student services staff, and colleagues in central offices to help resolve program issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues such as petitions and transfer credit evaluations, etc. May be tasked with evaluating and recommending program improvements. Other duties as assigned.Additional Duties:
Represent SoE undergraduate programs to other entities across campus, and meet with prospective and newly admitted students and their families to provide information about undergraduate programs in engineering. Track milestones for degree progress for multiple, complex degree programs in the School of Engineering and ensure the integrity of these degrees. Oversee the Tau Beta Pi engineering honors society including determining eligibility and advising student leaders. Coordinate faculty-led Undergraduate Education Council (UEC) meetings to facilitate undergraduate program reviews. Coordinate and implement online Undergraduate Handbook (UGHB), STEM Roadmap, and Bulletin degree program updates in collaboration with appropriate university and school stakeholders. In collaboration with VPUE (Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education) and engineering departments, apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities, make recommendations and administer the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) summer research program.Education & Experience (Required):
Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):
Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management. Advanced analysis and problem solving skills. Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced customer service skills. Relevant computer systems/technology experience. Understanding of financial transactions. Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.Education & Experience (Desired):
Experience working with Stanford's academic and student services systems strongly preferred.Working Conditions:
This position is hybrid eligible but will have a significant presence on campus since it is student facing.Physical Requirements:

The expected pay range for this position is $91,874 to $108,373 per annum.
