Assistant Director of Community Standards

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Community Standards, the Assistant Director will be responsible for providing innovative leadership for a student-centered campus conduct system. Responsibilities will include coordination of individual and organizational student conduct; development of creative responses to student conduct issues; implementation of a comprehensive educational process for helping members of the University community fully understand their individual and group rights and responsibilities; and the development of a comprehensive approach to issues of academic misconduct.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in all aspects of the management, coordination, and communication of The Student Code, the University’s student conduct system. This includes coordinating the flow of cases, training all personnel, investigating, and resolving violations as an investigating student conduct officer and hearing officer with full authority to issue sanctions up to and including University Expulsion, and coordinating a system to assure compliance.
Responsible for the coordination of specific areas which may include but are not limited to the following:
Investigating Student Conduct Officer
+ Conducts prompt, impartial, and thorough investigations of all alleged behavior prohibited by The Student Code, including federally mandated Title IX (sexual misconduct) and other student conduct-related violations including, but not limited to, incidents involving alcohol and other drug use/possession, harming behavior, etc.
+ Conducts interviews, gathers, and documents evidentiary materials related to the reported allegations.
+ Maintains accurate and thorough records in accordance with institutional, state, and federal guidelines.
+ Collaborates with campus partners to investigate and resolve potential violations of The Student Code relevant to registered student organizations and behavioral concerns.
+ Develops and manages processes to resolve complaints and conflicts regarding student groups (this is inclusive of Registered Student Organizations and Athletic Teams).
Academic Integrity
+ Serve as a contact and resource for faculty, staff, and students regarding academic integrity and misconduct issues on all campuses.
+ Implement procedures for administering the academic integrity policy for undergraduate students specifically related to the Academic Misconduct Boards.
+ Train and oversee faculty and students serving on Academic Misconduct Boards.
Sanction Creation, Management, and Compliance
+ Assess the educational needs of students within the conduct process and develop appropriate sanction options.
+ Manage all aspects of sanction compliance, including collaboration and communication with other departments responsible for education initiatives utilized for sanctioning.
+ Develop and implement new sanctions with an emphasis on student and ethical development.
+ Oversee existing sanction options executed by Community Standards including:
UConn Compass
+ Manage all aspects of the UConn Compass program, an engagement program for individuals who have violated The Student Code.
+ Train and supervise the UConn Compass facilitators.
+ Maintain all electronic documents and informational items related to the program as well as training materials.
University Probation Process
+ Manage all aspects of the University Probation Review Process.
+ Select, train, and advise the Probation Review Committee.
+ Maintain all electronic documents and informational items related to the process as well as training materials.
+ Maintain education records related to conduct in accordance with institutional federal regulations.
+ Serve as a member of various teams and committees as needed.
+ Supervise graduate assistant and graduate practicum students as needed.
+ Assist students, faculty, and staff in reaching settlements of disputes/complaints regarding behavior. This includes all stages including information collection, fact-finding, and resolution development.
+ Work with appropriate University officials and departments to facilitate satisfactory solutions to issues and problems that fall within the responsibilities of Community Standards.
+ Serve as a member of the decision-making body in relation to the revisions to The Student Code. This includes researching, evaluating, and recommending changes.
+ Collect and provide information as needed in regard to compliance in areas such as Title IX and Clery.
+ Assist in the coordination of responses to behavioral incidents at the regional campuses.
+ Respond to campus emergencies, as needed.
+ Train and advise Residential Life staff regarding the student conduct process.
+ Serve as a resource to the University community regarding disruptive students and interpretations of The Student Code, and make presentations to groups.
+ Maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of schools, colleges, regional campuses, student support programs, and student organizations regarding policies related to maintaining an appropriate academic living/learning environment.
+ Develop strong working relationships with campus departments.
+ Develop and conduct assessment projects related to Community Standards.
+ Serve in the absence of the Director or Associate Director of Community Standards as needed.
+ Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
+ Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or a related field.
+ Four years of progressive professional experience working in student affairs.
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and regularly exercise judgment regarding a wide variety of administrative matters.
+ Articulated commitment to, or demonstrated understanding of, diversity, inclusion, and equity issues.
+ Experience working with diverse populations.
+ Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Five to seven years of progressive experience in higher education.
+ Experience working in a student conduct system.
+ Active involvement in related professional organizations.
+ Experience in working with conduct management computer systems such as Maxient.
+ Significant knowledge and expertise in Title IX, Clery, and other key compliance issues.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, permanent position. The University offers a competitive salary (range $72,000 - $75,000), outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Currently, a hybrid of on-campus/remote work schedule is permitted subject to authorization and University policy.
