Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Associate Director for Prevention and Wellness Initiatives, the Assistant Director for Prevention & Health Education is responsible for leading and managing a team of peer health educators, overseeing their training, program implementation, and overall performance while promoting healthy behaviors and wellness initiatives on campus. The areas of focus for this position are Peer Health Education, General Wellness, and Safer Sex Initiatives.
+ Recruit, hire, train, supervise and mentor a team of Peer Health Educators.
+ Implement a comprehensive training for peer educators covering topics such as prevention strategies, communication skills, group facilitation, and relevant health information.
+ Manage the daily operations of the peer health educators to support the work of the Center for Wellness Promotion, and the overall Health and Wellbeing Unit.
+ Implement and evaluate evidence-informed initiatives related to general wellness and safer sex/sexual health by assessing effectiveness of specific campus and community partnerships.
+ Assist the Associate Director with overseeing fiscal resources including student payroll and program-area operational expenses
+ Coordinate and oversee the delivery of prevention programs and presentation requests across campus, including weekly tabling events
+ Establish and maintain relationships with external partners, community organizations and agencies to leverage resources and promote collaboration.
+ Oversee the inventory of safer sex supplies by managing donations and purchases; fill individual and bulk order requests.
Minimum Experience / Education:
+ Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion or a related field (i.e. Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education, etc.)
+ Two or more years of experience in the field of health promotion (graduate assistantship experience may be considered)
+ Proven experience in health education program development, implementation, and evaluation
+ Experience managing and developing student employees and volunteers
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills, and presentation skills
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
+ Two or more years of work experience in health promotion with a focus on general wellness and sexual health, particularly in the higher education setting
+ Strong understanding of public health principles and evidence-based practices
+ Familiarity with current health issues and trends relevant to young adults/the university population
+ Knowledge of current data, research, and best practices in the field of college health promotion
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and mentor peer health educators
+ Strong leadership and supervisory skills of student employees with the ability to motivate and empower others
