Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director, First Year Experience - Boca Raton, FL.

The First-Year Experience/SLS Course Coordinator has primary responsibility to improve, enhance, and grow the existing first-year transition-to-college courses along with secondary academic advising responsibilities. They will assist directly in the planning, development, and implementation of coursework (including administrative support) that empower first-year students to succeed inside and outside of the classroom.  The First-Year Experience/SLS Course Coordinator’s work supports the university’s goals of improved retention, graduation, and time to degree completion for students. 

Summary of responsibilities:

Participate and contribute to the development of first-year SLS curriculum and courses.

Participate in program management (assist with budgeting and course section projection).

Recruit, select, and train SLS instructors/faculty.

Provide academic advising to a limited number of first and second-year students, including a defined population of transfer students (under 45 earned credit hours and all undeclared students regardless of hours earned).

Participate in onboarding/enrolling students at on and off campus programs.

Teach (minimally) one section of SLS 1411 (1-credit hour transition-to-college course).  

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience required.


Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Experience working with first-year programs in higher education.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and teamwork.

Teaching experience in higher education.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

Experience with Canvas or similar learning management systems.

Salary:

$60,000 per year.

College or Department:

UGS: UAS - First Year Experience.

Location:

Boca Raton

Work Days and Hours:

Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Occasional evenings as needed.
