About This Role:
In this vital role, you will play a key part in helping our students chart a successful career path and achieve their professional goals. You will be responsible for serving as the liaison and Career Consultant to two colleges, helping students with resumes, cover letters, personal statements and other professional documents, mock interviewing, career and major exploration and other aspects of career development. Supporting University with retention efforts by identifying students early in their student lifecycle for career and major exploration; current knowledge of reviewing career assessments such as Focus 2 Career, Kuder Journey, and MBTI . This position will also be required to engage with and support faculty and departments with presentations on career related topics as well as communicate goals, mission, and vision of the department to Deans and faculty to promote early adoption of career services, buy-in of services, and foster collaborative relationships.
You will work closely with the Director to develop and implement effective programs and resources that prepare individuals for the workforce and guide them throughout their careers. Oversight of the Career Competency Micro credentialing program and collaborating with career consultants to identify presenters and employers for workshops, Passport, events, and other professional development is required. Furthermore, collaborating with career consultants and career services staff to support the Center’s overall needs is essential. This position plays a crucial role in employer relations to support engagement with on-campus career fairs and events including navigating employers through Handshake to post internship and job opportunities as well as maintaining knowledge of sponsorship packages to help market and promote organizations throughout campus.
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current career competencies, best practices, trends and certifications through national and regional professional associations such as National Association of Colleges and Employers ( NACE ), National Career Development Association ( NCDA ), National Student Employment Association ( NSEA ), Houston Area Association of Career Services ( HACCC ), etc. will be expected. This position will also support the Director with evaluating and improving the effectiveness of career development for the department; maintaining oversight and managing the assessment and evaluation, of career development programs and services to ensure the Center is meeting the needs of students and effectively preparing them for the job market. Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data that informs program improvement and strategic decision-making utilizing Qualtrics, WEAVE , FDS , etc.
This position also will serve as an Assistant Test Center Administrator to Pearson Vue and Prometric Testing labs. Supporting the Director with maintaining contracts in areas to support both testing and assessment for admissions and placement purposes for both undergraduate and graduate levels such as ACT , TSI , CLEP , HESI , GMAT , GRE , MCAT , LSAT , DAT , etc, to professional certifications and licensures such as CPA , TExES, Praxis, STEPs, Texas Insurance, Texas Real Estate, NCEES , NCE , FINRA , and various others. Maintaining knowledge of THECB , ACCUPLACER , College Board and other governing bodies of admissions processes and standards for testing in Texas to support enrollment efforts and initiatives. Provide training to student staff working with marketing, social media, and as the HireACardinal liaison supporting both students and employer. Supervision of career and testing center staff and other student employees to support Director is essential. Responsible for supporting Saturday testing, orientation, Cardinal View, and other events for the University are required. Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
+ Career Coaching/Counseling/Consulting: Provide one-on-one career counseling to students or employees, offering guidance on career exploration, resume building, interview preparation, and job search strategies. Assist individuals in creating effective resumes and cover letters tailored to their chosen career paths. Provide support and guidance to students in understanding and using career assessment tools and resources. Identifying students early in the student lifecycle for career and major exploration to support university retention. Stay current with trends in career services and assessment practices through professional development and participation in relevant associations.
+ Employer Relations & Marketing: Cultivate relationships with employers, industry partners, and alumni to facilitate internship and job opportunities for individuals. Execute marketing plans and initiatives to engage and educate students, staff, faculty, executive team, and outside stakeholders on sponsors, career fairs, workshops, etc. Collaborate with University marketing team to ensure marketing is communicated across campus.
+ Career/Professional Development Programs: Collaborate with the Career and Professional Development team to design and implement career/professional development programs, and experiential learning opportunities. Develop and conduct workshops, presentations, and seminars on various career-related topics, such as networking, job searching, and professional branding. Curate and maintain a library of job search resources, including job boards, employer databases, and career assessment tools.
+ Data and Assessment: Track and report on career services’ effectiveness, using data to make improvements and enhance program outcomes. Gather quantitative and qualitative data on student career outcomes, job placements, and employer feedback. Analyze assessment data to identify trends, strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement in career service. Prepare and present regular reports on assessment findings to the Career Services Director and other stakeholders. Evaluate the effectiveness of career development programs, workshops, and events to make data-driven recommendations for improvement Conduct benchmarking and quality assurance by comparing career services outcomes and practices with peer institutions to identify best practices and areas for growth. Ensure that the career services provided align with industry standards and best practices.
+ Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues including faculty and staff, alumni affairs, campus departments, executive team, and institutional research to ensure alignment with broader institutional goals. Work closely with the Career and Professional Development team to ensure a seamless and holistic approach to support student success with their career and professional development goals.
+ Supervision: Supervises marketing/social media, HireACardinal student staff, serve as Assistant Test Center Administrator; will supervise career services, testing staff and additional student staff in absence of Director.
+ Testing: Support in testing labs, upholding Pearson Vue and Prometric contracts, maintaining proper certifications, and supervising labs in lieu of Director. Maintaining knowledge of THECB , ACCUPLACER , College Board and other governing bodies of admissions processes and standards for testing.
+ Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the university.
Physical Requirements:
+ Able to lift 10 lbs. and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.

+ Sedentary, exerts up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time. Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree
+ Knowledgeable with university career services

+ 3-5 years of experience working in Career Services and Higher Education, knowledge of career assessments preferably Focus 2 Career, standardized and computer-based testing, Handshake Job Database
