Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support our finance and accounting operations. This role involves overseeing financial statements, internal and external reporting packages, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, experience in managing staff, and the ability to handle multiple projects efficiently.
Responsibilities
+ Oversee corporate and field monthly closing processes and deadlines.
+ Supervise general ledger reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
+ Supervise and prepare journal entries, including tax and allocation entries.
+ Review and prepare foreign currency transaction/translation entries.
+ Oversee related party transactions, including intercompany, intracompany, investment in subsidiaries/JVs, and eliminations.
+ Manage corporate processes relating to cash transactions, accounts receivable, prepaids, fixed assets, equity, accounts payable, accruals, and deferred tax accounts.
+ Substantiate and review new supplier/vendor/service provider setup documents.
+ Substantiate and review expenditures and expense reports for accuracy.
+ Manage and assist with financial audits.
+ Assist with the preparation of financial analyses, outlooks, and forecasts.
+ Work with corporate department managers/staff to develop budgets and business plans.
+ Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, GAAP, and Sarbanes-Oxley.
+ Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements.
+ Audit workflow to ensure all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized.
+ Assist with hiring, training, and managing staff.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting; Master’s Degree and CPA preferred.
+ A minimum of 4 years senior -level finance or accounting experience, construction industry experience preferred.
+ Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
+ Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
+ Strong problem-solving and resolution capabilities to maintain efficiency and accuracy.
+ Working knowledge with foreign currency transactions and translations.
+ Knowledge of federal, state, and local financial regulations.
+ Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
+ Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting.
+ Ability to perform with a high level of discretion, professionalism, and integrity.
+ Ability to effectively train and manage staff.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects within tight timeframes.
+ Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
+ Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with advanced Excel skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
+ Experience supporting the Controller and Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) in areas such as corporate reporting, financial planning and analysis, taxation, and budget preparation/forecasting.
Work Environment
The role is based on-site in an office environment. The position frequently requires sitting for long periods, speaking, reading, writing, and using a computer keyboard. Occasionally, the role may require standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending. Travel is minimal, ranging from 0% to 5%.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $145000.00 - $155000.00/yr.
