Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff. Work Location Development Services; 1901 S. Alamo St., San Antonio, TX (78207) Work Hours 7: 45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday Essential Job Functions + Reviews plans for compliance with the City's tree preservation and landscape regulations. + Assists in coordinating with the public and City departments in the approval of permits as they relate to landscaping and tree preservation. + Confers with landscape architects and developers to promote tree preservation in the preparation of construction plans and land development. + Assists in making field inspections of diseased trees. + Determines feasibility of preserving trees. + Investigates violations and questionable tree preservation issues. + Administers tree removal permits. + Responds to and investigates residents' complaints. + Maintains automated inventory of construction projects subject to the tree preservation ordinance. + Coordinates with staff in the implementation of the City's tree preservation and landscape ordinances. + Coordinates with field inspectors to ensure project completion in accordance with plan specifications and acceptable tree protection during construction. + Assists in the development of educational programs. + Assumes the duties of the City Arborist when necessary. + Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements + Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Forestry, Arboriculture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field. + Two (2) years of related experience. + Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License Preferred Qualifications + ISA Certified Arborist. + ISA Municipal Specialist. + TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification). + Knowledge of ANSI A300 Standards for Tree Care and ANSI Z133 Safety Standards. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. + Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of trees and landscape materials, including proper planting, pruning, and care techniques. + Knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations concerning tree preservation operations. + Knowledge of National Arborist Association Standards for tree care. + Knowledge of design and layout of plant materials and irrigation techniques. + Skill in utilizing basic office equipment. + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. + Ability to establish and maintain effective public relationship with co-workers, supervisors and the general public. + Ability to interpret construction plans for compliance with tree preservation and landscape ordinances. + Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position with or without accommodations. + Working conditions are primarily inside and outside with occasional exposure to temperature variations.
