The Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for an Assistant Attorney General 1 – 6 in the Public Protection Division. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Assistant Attorney General 1-6, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected. The position will be domiciled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, East Baton Rouge Parish. Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory background check, drug testing, and reference verifications.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Louisiana and
+ Must be in good standing with the Louisiana Bar Association.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Knowledge of regulatory and/or administrative laws, including, but not limited to, the Louisiana Administrative Procedure Act;
+ Experience as a courtroom litigator;
+ Possess excellent written, oral advocacy, and interpersonal skills; and,
+ Experience with auditing and/or compliance.
Examples of Work
The position of an Assistant Attorney General in the Tobacco section may consist of, but is not limited to, the following duties:
+ Perform recurring duties independently;
+ Prepare, proofread, and edit correspondence, reports, and other materials;
+ Draft a wide variety of correspondence, reports, tables, records, and notes;
+ Manage and input reports into section database;
+ Participate on teleconferences and type notes with substantive details;
+ Draft, review and analyze legislation relative to agency and tobacco matters;
+ Review certification applications and accompanying documents submitted by tobacco manufacturers;
+ Update and maintain the Louisiana Approved Tobacco Directory of manufacturers and products approved for sale in the state;
+ Communicate with tobacco manufacturers and wholesalers regarding administrative and enforcement matters;
+ Communicate with other state agencies both in Louisiana and nationally on various tobacco enforcement issues;
+ Participate in various multistate working groups and conference calls on various tobacco related matters, as well as attendance at tobacco conferences; and
+ Accept additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
