Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Sports Medicine and in collaboration with team physician(s), the Assistant Athletic Trainer ensures the health and safety of varsity student-athletes at Montclair and Bloomfield campuses. This position performs athletic training services including injury prevention, evaluation, emergency care, rehabilitation, making necessary referrals, and follow-up care. This is a ten-month position.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Adheres to and enforces policies and procedures of the Athletics Department and University as well as the rules and regulations of the respective conferences, and the NCAA.
Evaluates student-athlete’s injuries in conjunction with team physicians and ensures that appropriate action is advised; works closely with team physicians for off campus appointments, diagnostic testing, rehabilitation and medical clearance.
Provides primary coverage and oversight to assigned sports.
Supervises athletic training clinical and work study students in the sports medicine office.
Provides Mental Health first aide.
Evaluates implements and supervises concussion protocol.
Maintains New Jersey Athletic Training licensure and remains in good standing with the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers through continuing education credits.
Provides medical coverage for all home varsity events and practices as directed; arranges for emergency care when needed according to the emergency action plan.
Ensures that assigned primary sport student-athletes have received proper medical clearance at the beginning of each academic year through completion of appropriate annual medical forms.
Works in conjunction with the Director to manage the sports medicine inventory of equipment and supplies; oversees the maintenance of all equipment and ensures that it is in good working order.
Maintains working knowledge of the Montclair State University health insurance and excess athletics insurance plan as well as knowledge of basic health insurance questions and what insurances our regular vendors participate with.
Collects and dates entry of all required medical forms in the EMR system.
Oversees and directs on-campus physical therapy for student-athletes and coordinates with an outside physical therapy clinic for long term and chronic injuries.
Organizes, maintains and makes certain that the sports medicine office is always sanitary and in good working order.
Travels with assigned teams by the director sports medicine.
Attends and participates in all training departmental, conference, and university-wide meetings related to duties and responsibilities.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree from CAATE accredited College or university in Athletic Training.
Minimum of two years of professional work experience in Athletic Training or similar field.
CPR/First Aid and AED certification.
Certification in good standing with the Athletic Training Board of Certification.
Licensed with the New Jersey Athletic Training Board of Medical Examiners.
Flexible schedule and ability to work regular days, early mornings, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel.
PREFERRED:
Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
CPR/First Aid and AED instructor.
Professional work experience in Athletic Training at an institution of higher education/NCAA athletic program.
Knowledge of Division II and III NCAA Guidelines.
