Description
This is a tenure-track, 12-month faculty position in Educational Leadership to work exclusively in the EdD Program. The faculty member will teach a total of 9 courses per year over three semesters. Dissertation advisement is part of the load, with 5 students constituting a course. The position is entirely remote, and the program curriculum has been designed to put mission and program differentiators at the forefront. While we have worked with professional instructional designers to construct the coursework and online platforms, this new faculty member will have the opportunity to enhance the already-designed primarily asynchronous doctoral courses.
This is an open-rank position ideal for someone who would prefer to work remotely. Opportunities for in-person visits to campus will be made available. Area of focus should include general educational leadership and applied research, with additional experience in higher education leadership applied research preferred.

Examples of Duties
+ Teach courses in the program
+ Chair and serve on doctoral committees
+ Collaborate with program director and program faculty to continually improve and evolve the EdD program.
+ Research/applied research in educational leadership or a related area
+ Service to the School of Education and/or the University.
SCHEDULE: This is an appointed faculty position as governed by the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook. Days, occasional evening or weekend hours as required.
In accordance the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook:
Instructional:
+ Teaching, including the preparation of course syllabi and classes, the preparation and grading of examinations, the supervision of laboratories and other practica, and the direction of theses, honor projects, and independent study work.
+ The maximum instructional load for teaching faculty during the academic year is:
+ Nine (9) credit hours in each of the fall and spring semesters for each person holding the rank of Professor.
+ Twelve (12) credit hours in each of the Fall and Spring semesters for all persons holding the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor.
Academic Advising:
+ Post and observe office hours for purposes of academic advising and student consultation. Meet with students as needed by appointment.
+ Advise and assist students during the ongoing registration process.
+ Maintain general knowledge of degree requirements, programs and course transfer information.
Institutional Service:
+ Participation in activities (usually through committee work) designed to advance the mission and quality of the University, School, and Departmental programs. Assignments to routine committee work will be made in consideration of other demands placed on the faculty member by the University.
+ Attendance at Department, School, and general Faculty and University meetings including commencements, convocations, and other official University exercises.
Professional Growth and Development:
+ Maintain a program of personal and professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility.
+ Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines.
+ Research, publication, and professional activity within one's field of specialization or otherwise directed towards the University's mission.
Additional Responsibilities:
+ Additional duties as assigned by the Provost and/or the Dean.
Typical Qualifications
Education:
+ Doctoral degree with a focus in Educational Leadership or a closely related field (required)
Years of Experience –
+ 3 or more years of practical experience in educational leadership or related field (required)
+ 3 or more years of experience in conducting or facilitating applied research (required)
+ Experience with teaching in a higher education setting (required)
+ 3 or more years of practical and/or applied research experience in higher educational leadership (preferred)
+ Experience with online course delivery and Learning Management Systems (LMS), Moodle (preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Ability to balance maintaining academic standards associated with the doctoral program with having compassion for busy, working professionals seeking to achieve their doctoral degree.
+ Knowledge of pedagogical approaches associated with EdD programs
+ Knowledge of maintaining the SBU EdD educational culture in an online environment
+ Skill in verbal and written communication to give and receive direction
+ Technology skills required for functioning within the job (Microsoft Office Suite, LMS, etc.)
+ Ability to apply strategic and program planning, program and curriculum planning, development, and evaluation
+ Ability to organize and direct work efforts and manage several competing priorities
+ Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of constituents in a diverse work environment via e-mail and other technology for virtual and remote instruction
