Asset Management - Alternatives - U.S. Real Estate - Managing Director of West Coast

The division offers investment management across all major asset classes including equities, fixed income, alternatives, multi-asset and money market funds. For individual investors, the business also provides retirement products and services, brokerage and banking services including trusts and estates, loans, mortgages and deposits.

 

The Real Estate Americas business is seeking to hire a Managing Director (“MD”) of West Coast US Asset Management in our Century City, CA office. The MD will also co-head the West Coast team with the West Coast Acquisitions team lead (based in SF) and will report to the Head of US Asset Management (based in NYC). The successful candidate will oversee a team of Asset Managers (including executive directors, vice presidents, associates and analysts) who oversee a diverse portfolio of assets in the residential, office, retail and industrial sectors and drive value to our clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for oversight and strategy implementation within the existing portfolio, assistance on development deals, the handling of dispositions, working through internal and external property valuations and completing various internal and external reports. The MD will be responsible for managing the asset management team, as well as coordinating with acquisitions, engineering, research and other JPM and external teams.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Develop and manage partner, broker, third party management firms and other industry relationships to generate market / product expertise. Have an in-depth knowledge of the West Coast real estate landscape and maximize portfolio returns within region. Provide strategic direction for a diverse portfolio of assets in the Western US region, particularly focusing on the Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego MSA’s. The portfolio will include assets across the risk spectrum. Build internal consensus on valuation and transaction structure through proactive communication with all constituencies (including the CIO, portfolio management, acquisitions, research, valuations, financial, debt capital markets, development/engineering, and legal). Oversee transaction negotiation and documentation of asset dispositions. Negotiate with a focus on identifying and mitigating risk, generate creative solutions to resolve structuring challenges. Exhibit leadership in partnering with other internal teams, and in developing senior and junior team members. The candidate will consistently strive to gain the confidence of senior team members, including portfolio managers and senior acquisitions officers. The candidate will also proactively seek ways to expand Real Estate America’s impact across the firm, including contributing to client pitches, reviews, and other important internal initiatives.  Research and analyze market data. Participate in property inspections and market tours. Oversee and review presentations for written leasing and disposition committee memos. Expertise in the calculation of partner promote structures and waterfall distributions.

Experience

Candidate should possess a minimum of 15 years of experience in real estate asset management.  Experience in the Western United States is a plus.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree required.

 

Travel

The candidate should be prepared to travel as needed.
