Location/Division Specific Information:

Thermo Fisher Scientific's Laboratory Products Division includes the Asheville Manufacturing site. We focus on manufacturing laboratory equipment for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, as well as universities. Our products play a crucial role in drug discovery, life science research, and improving quality of life. Our offerings encompass equipment, accessories, and services related to sample preparation, storage, protection, and analysis.

How Will You Make an Impact?:

You will perform a wide variety of product assembly operations on product components, assemblies or sub-assemblies to make laboratory equipment and medical devices. You will work safely and ensure the best quality products and engage with your colleagues to troubleshoot problems and drive continuous improvement in the factory.

A Day in the Life:

Select appropriate components to align and assemble them in accurate sequence by drilling holes, adding rivets, screws, bolts, braces, tape, cement or solder to meet specifications.

Apply wiring harnesses, sensors, and other electrical components recognizing color codes to ensure that wiring and other color-coded procedures meet guidelines. Read electrical wiring diagrams to accomplish accurate assembly. Inspect parts during sub-assembly and at key points to ensure the unit meets specified quality standards prior to moving unit to the next workstation.

Use a wide range of hand tools, including, but not limited to drill, rivet gun, drill press.

Use SAP system shared plant-wide to enter product related data into computer system to back flush component serial numbers, scan bar codes, production rates, detail physical location, etc.

Order and retrieve supplies/materials such as cardboard, bags, warehouse items, etc., using paper and SAP documents.

Troubleshoots work-related problems by applying knowledge and experience toward resolution and taking appropriate steps for assistance.

Test assembled units; clean and pack final product.

Education:

Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of a high school diploma.

Experience:

Required: No previous work experience required

Preferred: Work history in manufacturing, operations, production or lab setting or related field

Preferred: Experience in a cGMP environment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to read and differentiate part numbers, labels, and work instructions.Follows company policies including safety and environmental policies.Self-starter with ability to react quickly to changing priorities.Ability to balance multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet designated production goals.Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Standing, bending, reaching and handling bulky parts is common to the job. Frequently lifts up to 50 pounds.
