Provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. Also provides other preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. Performs functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes appropriate and approved vendors. Maintains par inventory with primary focus on adequate volume and cost control. Maintains awareness of schedule and responds to changes and fluctuations in order to meet the needs of the patients. Accurately advises relief or others responsible for patient care regarding the patient status. Checks for outdated items and insures rotation of stock to minimize waste. Required Licenses Registered Nurse Certification from National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assisting preferred; Membership in professional organization is strongly encouraged. BLS is required Required Experience Minimum Work Experience One year experience in surgical assist environment preferred.
