You will find Travelers to be full of energy and a workplace in which you truly can make a difference. **Job Category** Legal **Target Openings** 1 **What Is the Opportunity?** Under moderate supervision of a supervising counsel, this position provides qualified students with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience and receive valuable on-the-job training through assisting and supporting counsel in all aspects of supporting the business of insurance, from corporate work to regulatory compliance. The articling student may conduct legal research, attend client meetings, review broker & client communications, draft legal documents including contracts, assist the compliance team on privacy, sanctions, and regulatory compliance matters, and support corporate governance, employment, corporate litigation, or government relations projects. Opportunity for rotations with one or more of the following departments: Claim Legal, Staff Counsel, and/or Specialty Lines may be available. **What Will You Do?** + Assist and support the Legal & Compliance department of Travelers Canada in providing strategic advice on a wide variety of business, regulatory compliance, and corporate legal matters. + Conduct legal research on a variety of issues. + Prepare policies, training materials, memos, correspondence, client & broker communications, etc. + Draft, review and assist in the negotiation of agreements, contracts, amendments, etc. + Assist and support the compliance team with privacy, sanctions, and regulatory compliance matters, as well as in responding to customer complaints. + Support corporate governance work and related administrative duties. + Work on special projects and/or assignments (e.g., updating legal templates, creating checklists, and other guidance documents for the business). + Interact with counsel, staff, clients and other business partners to respond to legal issues and questions. + Learn and understand company expectations and key department business goals and assist in meeting those goals, included as it relates to serving customers and broker partners. + Perform other duties as assigned. What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have? + Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications. + Proficiency in online legal research (WestLaw, CanLII, etc.). + Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. + A strong academic background, demonstrated by a high grade point average (GPA), honors or distinctions. + Demonstrated interest and excitement about the prospect of making litigation and/or the insurance industry their future career choice. **What is a Must Have?** + Juris Doctorate (JD) or Bachelor of Law (LLB) required or in final year of an accredited law school. + Registered for the Lawyer Licensing Process with the relevant Law Society. + Travel as required to meet business needs. **Employment Practices** Travelers is an equal opportunity employer.
