REPORTS TO: SVP of Operations

HOURS: Full-time, non-exempt
SALARY RANGE:  $34.37 - 44.20/hr

 

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County are positioning themselves to be the premier provider of Youth Development Programs in our area through targeted outreach initiatives, strategic partnerships with schools and local governments, and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County was founded in 1946 and has been a pillar of youth programming in the community ever since. With four Clubhouses, and four licensed care center campuses we are the largest provider of youth programming in Whatcom County.

Under the supervision of the Senior VP of Operations, the Area Director is responsible for program excellence in all areas of programming within our Clubhouses with a primary concern for outcome driven programs and experiences for youth. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of Club Directors and our Behavioral Support Specialist and will be responsible for the selection and/ or development and deployment of programs and activities that foster appropriate developmental growth. This role requires innovation, dedication, the ability to supervise staff at multiple locations and a willingness to evaluate and improve.

Responsibilities Provides direction for all Clubhouse staff recruitment, retention, evaluation and professional developmentInspires and empowers all Club Directors to develop a Club Culture consistent with the organization’s values and community need that is consistent with membership core competencies established by Boys & Girls Clubs of AmericaActively work to foster an environment rich in giving and receiving feedback in a direct and honest wayEnsures all program participants, families, and staff are provided with a safe environment, free from emotional or physical harm and ensure that all facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintainedWorks to increase overall organizational capacity to deliver high quality Club programs through various methods that reflect organizational policies and procedures, strategies and goals, and values\Conceptualizes and plans new opportunities to increase impactful programming through the vetting and development of curriculum and community partnershipsAssesses the needs, interests and characteristics of youth to develop targeted programs that result in an outcome driven Club experienceEnsures full compliance with all policies, procedures and ensures proper documentation and records are maintainedEnsures the timely and effective execution of the performance management systems including a staff development and training program as part of overall succession planning as well as facilitating trainingBe prepared yet flexible on a daily basisFoster trust by acting and speaking with kindnessEstablishes the highest levels of program implementation that includes accountability, review, reflection, and adaptationProvide transportation in company fleet to and from Clubhouses, which includes transporting staff and youth as neededLead in developing and cultivating partnerships with community organizations and school districts to advance Club programsEnsure timely collection of paperwork related to USDA and other grant programsWorks with Senior VP of Operations to increase safety scores on annual BGCA safety assessmentsEstablishes the highest levels of program quality and provides training, tools and reports to meet quality metrics that includes accountability, review, reflection, and adaptationAssist in budget development, tracking and reporting; controlling all expenditures against budgetEnsure that the appropriate program supplies are available at each location and the facilities meet safety and cleanliness standardsWork with buildings and grounds manager to ensure all annual inspections are complete for all Club facilitiesWorks with VP of Administration to reduce staff-turnover to below industry standardApproach conversations with youth and peers full of curiosityIngrain the five key elements for positive youth development targeted program effectiveness into the Club’s culture; including safe & positive environment, fun, recognition, supportive relationships and opportunities and expectationsWork in conjunction with other staff to develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the communityOversee all programmatic reporting for grantsEnsures monthly ADA targets are achieved and compiles monthly Club ADA trend reportsBe reliable and dependable by arriving on time every day ready to fulfill obligationsFollow the lead of the youth we serveAdditional duties as assigned   Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree requiredA minimum of five years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, with at least two in a significant supervisory capacityConsiderable knowledge of the mission, priority outcomes, programs, and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs and the principles and practices of non-profit organizationsDemonstrated skills in project management, including developing, implementing and tracking processesDemonstrated knowledge of, interest in and respect for the communities the Clubs serveAbility to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staffAbility to manage multiple projects and develop solutions to problems while maintaining a positive attitudeWorking knowledge of budget preparation, control, and managementDemonstrated ability working with community members, parents, and young peopleProgressive supervisory experience, multi-site preferenceExperience with USDA/OSPI food programsAbility to analyze data and produce reports requiredBe enthusiastic for the mission and motivated to learn new skills on the jobAbility to establish and meet deadlines and goalsMust have a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements for being insured to operate Club vehicle

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Must be able to function under fast paced and noisy conditions; May require being active for long  periods of time; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others  may understand clearly; physical agility to push, pull, lift and or carry 5 pounds.
