Join a team that has the environment down to a science. **Your Opportunity** Stantec is seeking an Archaeological Principal Investigator to work out of its Nashville, TN office. The Principal Investigator will be expected to manage a multidisciplinary team of accomplished archaeologists, architectural historians, historians, biologists, and ecologists on a variety of projects in the Southeast and the greater United States. The applicant will also be tasked with assisting in the growth of our cultural resource services within Tennessee and the broader region. The position responsibilities include managing complex projects, client relations, proposal writing, directing archaeological fieldwork and laboratory analysis, report preparation and coordinating with other Stantec staff to ensure the quality of data, fieldwork, and paperwork. **Your Key Responsibilities** * Act as the technical resource lead and/or Principal Investigator for complex, high-profile cultural resource investigations for a variety of clients and sectors * Preparing and supporting the preparation of documents such as background studies, agency coordination letters, National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 106 consultation, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document sections, and technical reports; curating archaeological materials and field records at state and federal repositories; providing direction in field protocols and safety considerations * Supporting and conducting client, resource agency, and landowner/land agent coordination * Developing research designs and permit applications for archeological research * Conducting/leading archival research * Supervising the recording archaeological and historic resources in the field * Performing real-time quality control on project documentation * Ensure the quality of data, fieldwork, and paperwork * Participate in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards, and Guidelines in the execution of all work * Mentoring/leading small teams of junior staff **Qualifications** **Your Capabilities and Credentials** * Must meet Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards as an Archaeologist * Strong knowledge and experience working with Section 106 of National Historic Preservation Act; NEPA experience is a plus, as is FERC, DOD, FHWA, or USACE project experience * Technical experience operating a GPS receiver and/or a Total Station and managing GIS data a plus. * Experience writing and producing technical reports for SHPO or other agency review * Very comfortable using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Adobe Acrobat. * Working knowledge of GIS * Experience with Trimble and associated software and submeter GPS * Strong field supervisory skills and experience with both small and large crews * Ability to complete physically demanding tasks in remote areas and/or subtropical climate, including walking, hiking, carrying loads, and digging * Requires effective communication with clients and regulatory agencies * Exhibit good leadership qualities, strong technical skills, good communication skills, and feel comfortable making tactical decisions in the field. * Frequent out-of-town travel, potentially for extended periods of time * Valid driver’s license with good driving record * Post-employment drug testing requirement based on client needs **Education and Experience** * M.A. in anthropology/archaeology or related field or sufficient experience to meet Tennessee guidelines as a Principal Investigator. * Minimum 5-8 years related experience * Experience leading field crews in archaeological contexts This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.
