Who You Are:

The Versar Environmental Services Group is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians for various archaeological projects located in the southwest (NM, West TX region). Depending on the assigned project, per diem and lodging may be provided.

What You’ll Do:

Project tasks will include pedestrian survey and subsurface testing. Prospective candidates must be capable of walking long distances and be able to dig numerous shovel test pits in compact and wet soils, carrying, lifting (up to 50lbs), and screening sediments for cultural materials. Candidates must be capable of carrying out field duties, often with limited or no support, in extreme environments.In addition to technical capabilities, individuals must be able to meet the requirements of various company and project safety and security requirements (i.e., no smoking in designated areas, UXO training, signing confidentiality agreements, etc.).Field Technicians should have experience conducting archaeological surveys and site documentation, which includes feature and artifact identification and analyses; performing shovel test pits (STPs) and the excavation of units; site descriptions; photographs; and mapping. Prior experience in the Southwest and knowledge of the prehistory and history of the region is preferred.

What You’ll Bring:

BA/BS degree in Anthropology or Archaeology, as well as the successful completion of an archaeological field school. Able to demonstrate knowledge of using GPS technology, take quality field photographs and detailed notes, and assist crew leaders in filling out the necessary site forms and paperwork that accompany survey and testing projects Must have a demonstrated background working with prehistoric and historic archaeological materials and have a fundamental knowledge of GPS tools.  This position requires working 8-hour days and be capable of walking up to 4 miles a day in rough terrain. Individuals must be capable of collecting field data using GPS units, possess a valid driver's license, and have access to reliable transportation.Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screenComply with company drug and alcohol policy.Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date.

Location Requirements

The position will primarily work in the field and travel will be required, determined by projects assigned to them.

Local technicians to El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico are also encouraged to apply to help support some of our local projects. 

Compensation 

Expected Salary: $16/hr - $20/hr
