PURPOSE:

The tool room personnel support production needs including working on and maintaining wax injection tooling, fixturing for both wax patterns and metal castings, dimensional gaging, and other tasks as needed. The Apprentice Tool and Die Maker position will assist experienced tool room personnel with daily activities while learning the tool and die maker skill sets. The position includes both daily responsibilities and many hands-on training opportunities while supporting daily production needs. The role requires high attention to detail and a methodical work pace.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Read an interpret work instructions to complete all work completely and thoroughlyAbility to utilized hand tooling to carefully disassemble, reassemble injection tooling.Clean and inspect injection tooling, reporting any concerns to engineering.Operate simple dimensional inspection hand toolsPerform simple mathematical calculationsEvaluate & report the fitment, alignment, and clearances of tooling for conformance to specifications.Demonstrate the ability to organize and manage a diverse work profile.Measure dimensions of work pieces to verify conformance to specifications.Work with experience operators to set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, CNC machines, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.Work with experience operators to fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.Mount materials or workpieces onto production equipment.Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders.Assist in the design and development of new tools and dies, using computer-aided design software.Measure materials to mark reference points, cutting lines, or other indicators.Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.Drill holes in parts, equipment, or materials.Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools.Cut industrial materials in preparation fabrication or processing.Exposure to CAD/CAM programs.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must display a willingness to learn on-the-job and take vocational or educational courses when offered.Ability to read simple blueprints.Understand general dimensioning and tolerancing

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The role reports to the tooling engineer.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
