Location - Waters Edge Clarendon Dock | Belfast | BT1 3BH ( mix of on site and tech locations )
Salary -  Second year apprenticeship rate on start

Job Summary: 

 

As an Apprentice Telecoms Engineer, you will learn how to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications systems and equipment. 

 

Working closely with a dedicated mentor/Team Lead and our experienced engineering team, you will gain practical experience and theoretical knowledge through a combination of on-the-job training and course studies at Belfast Met.

 

We would love to welcome you to our Belfast location for the days you are in the office. You’ll report into Barry Paul, Head of Hosted Service Delivery NI & ROI

   

 Key Responsibilities:

 

Assist senior engineers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications infrastructure, including voice, data, and cloud technologies.Learn to perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and testing of equipment to ensure optimal performance and identify any faults or malfunctions.Learn and assist with the configuration, installation, and testing of cloud voice & network equipment, such as handsets, switches, routers, and access points.Learn and support the implementation and maintenance of CAT5e/Cat6e & fibre optic structured cabling, including splicing and termination of fibre cables.Learn to interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and manuals to assist in equipment installation and repairs.Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and effective project completion within given timelines.Keep accurate records of work performed, including documenting equipment repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks.Adhere to safety guidelines and best practices to maintain a safe working environment.Attend college courses on a day release or as required basis to enhance your technical knowledge and acquire an OCR Technical Diploma qualification.

 

What do we expect of you?
 
Experience & competence.

 

5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above including Maths and English and a pass at A or AS Level in any subject area OR an equivalent qualification in any discipline.Enthusiasm and a genuine interest in the telecommunications industry.A positive can-do attitude.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.Basic knowledge of computer networking concepts is a plus.Ability to work at heights and in a variety of working environments.Availability to attend college courses on a day release basis.Valid UK driver's license or be working towards a driving test in the near future.
