How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region: The hard-working individuals we welcome on our team will be responsible for successfully participating in a state indentured apprenticeship program designed to train qualified individuals in performing mechanical troubleshooting, repair, preventive, asset condition monitoring and machining of parts in our wastewater treatment facilities. Apprentice20252026 1st 2000 Hours = 75%$35.00$36.95 2nd 2000 Hours= 85%$39.67$41.88 3rd 2000 Hours= 90%$42.00$44.34 4th 2000 Hours = 95%$44.34$46.81 What you would do in this job + Troubleshoot and analyze mechanical breakdowns. + Disassemble and inspect problematic equipment. + Repair defective equipment (making and installing new parts), redesign inefficient equipment, and rig and move equipment. + Design, machine and fabricate all prototype work for new and existing equipment. + Maintain tools, clean work sites, and utilize safety equipment with cooperation and notification of operations personnel. + Successfully complete assigned training by the end of apprenticeship. + Use current technology to effectively complete timesheets and work orders. + Must complete 144 hours of required training for every 2000 hours of remaining apprenticeship after credits. What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications) High school diploma or GED AND four (4) years of work experience in a mechanical, heavy industrial, or wastewater setting. License Requirements: A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Candidates should already possess or be willing and able to obtain a commercial driver's license if business needs require it. What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications): + Completion of a two (2) year mechanical maintenance vocational program. + At least one (1) full year of professional verifiable work experience as a machinist mechanic. + Experience with welding. + Experience with Asset Condition Monitoring (vibration, non-destructive testing (NDT), infrared). + Experience promoting an equitable, positive, and respectful work environment that values culture and diversity among all employees. What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job: + Knowledge of, or ability to learn, machining and welding. + Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the use of various hand tools used in this industry. + Knowledge of, or ability to operate, various power tools and equipment. + Ability to install, dismantle, repair and troubleshoot mechanical equipment. + Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the operation, installation, preventive maintenance and repair of a wide variety of equipment, such as pumps, drives (gear sets, chains, sprockets, belts and sheaves, clutches, and U-joints), bar screens, centrifuges, holding tanks and other predominant wastewater treatment mechanical equipment. + Knowledge of, or ability to learn, preventive maintenance and asset condition monitoring. + Ability to make mathematical calculations involving decimals, fractions, addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. + Ability to make measurements in American and metric units. + Ability to work independently, follow written and verbal instructions, and work cooperatively with multiple trades personnel. + Ability to effectively complete timesheets and work orders. Requires travels and driving between primary work site and other work sites. Subject to an environment where fumes and airborne particles are present. Must have physical ability required to perform work in an awkward position or in cramped conditions, including confined spaces. Requires crouching, kneeling, and stooping for extended periods of time. Performs repetitive motions including bending, twisting, pushing, and pulling. Must have the ability to work in very noisy conditions and around equipment where odorous fumes, oil, grease and chemicals exist. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
